There are many Templates in use on Xenopedia; these are only a subset, representing some of the most important and commonly used ones. If you feel that a template belongs on this page, do not hesitate to add it.

  • Category:Templates should cover all templates on the wiki, categorized into the various subcategories.
  • The Template namespace (found from Special:Allpages) always has all templates in the wiki, sorted alphanumerically.

What Are Templates?

Wiki templates provide a quick and simple means to insert the same content over and over in different (or the same) pages. This saves editors the hassle of duplicating the same text again and again, and also helps ensure consistency. Templates can be as simple as a single word, or as complex as a large table or infobox.

On this page, templates are generally shown with the format required to use the template (e.g. {{Stub}}). Clicking the template name will take you to the template's page, where you can see what it looks like and how it is used.

Detailed instructions on the usage of each template exist on the template page itself (inside "noinclude" tags).

Article Management Templates

Nominate an article for deletion

  • Add this to the top of a page to nominate it for deletion. It will add the article to Category:Candidates for Deletion.

  • It is important to properly reference and source information. Use at the top of a page to indicate the article needs additional references. It will add the article to Category:Articles needing sources.

Stubs

  • Use at the top of a page to indicate the article has little or no useful information and needs to be expanded. It will add the article to Category:Article stubs.

Images needed

  • Every article should have at least one image when possible. Use at the top of a page to indicate a page that needs an image. It will add the article to Category:Articles needing images.

Disambiguation

  • If you have two articles that might be found though the same search term, you may wish to place a "disambiguation" link at the top of the most significant article, which will create a link to the secondary article.
  • For more information, see Help:Disambiguations.

  • If you have more than two articles that might be found though the same search term, you may wish to create a "disambiguation" page at the main article name, with the other articles listed on it. For example:
Lambert <-- disambiguation page, with links to:

  • Using {{Disambig}} marks an article as a disambiguation page by adding a banner to the article and categorizing it under Category:Disambiguations. Add links to the various articles under the banner.

Default sort

  • Use at the top of a page to affect how it will be sorted when listed alongside others. Usually used to ensure characters/real individuals with full names are sorted sorted by surname first, then their first name(s).

Display title

  • Use at the top of a page to affect how its title will be displayed. Usually used to ensure articles on films/games/named vessels are properly displayed either fully or partially in italics, or to allow otherwise unusable characters to appear in page titles.
