The X46 Ballista Flechette, alternately referred to as the Ballista, was an experimental sniper rifle manufactured by Armat Battlefield Systems and used by the Colonial Marines Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance Service and the United States Colonial Marine Corps during the late 22nd century.
Development[]
The X46 Ballista was part of the same line as the X43 Barrage Flechette SMG and X45, and was developed independently from other Armat projects by the Colonial Marines Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance Service to be a fast–firing, long range, and anti–armor sniper rifle.[1]
Overview[]
The Ballista fired experimental "flechette" ammunition; unlike the mini–dart clusters fired by the 843 Barrage, however, the X46 used singular darts made from proprietary non–magnetic, thermally–inert metamaterials. Despite not having the effective range and impact of other sniper rifles, the Ballista possessed a faster rate of fire and, owing to its ammunition, was more accurate at long distances even through dense atmosphere and liquid mediums. Furthermore, it was powerful enough to take out heavily protected targets. Even though the Ballista lacked recorded official field combat use, a number of acquisitions were made following the publicized and inexplicable disappearance of a prominent arms trafficker while she was swimming beneath the ice of an ocean moon resort.[1]

Originally manufactured in 2197 for the CMISRS, the Ballista also saw a limited deployment within the United States Colonial Marine Corps.[1]

The X46 Ballista Flechette appears in Aliens: Fireteam Elite and can be acquired via a random drop by finishing a mission in Standard difficulty. It can be equipped by Gunner, Demolisher, Recon and Doc classes.[1]
