The X45 Bombard, also labeled the Bombard, was an experimental dedicated marksman rifle manufactured by Armat Battlefield Systems for the Colonial Marines Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance Service and also used by the United States Colonial Marine Corps during the early 23rd century.
Development[]
The X45 Bombard was the last issue of a new line of flechette–firing weapons commissioned specifically for the Colonial Marines Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance Service; its development was independent from other Armat projects.[1]
Overview[]
The Bombard fired small 5.6mm fin-stabilized "flechette" ammunition, and used a bullpup configuration that made it easier to reload. The weapon used the same four–round burst as the M41A3 Burst Rifle but in a far more tight burst grouping, featuring a stabilizing bipod for a more stable fire, and could penetrate armor on a par with other 10mm weapons. Rumors abounded that the X45 receiver could be swapped to accept belt–fed ammunition; however, such rumors were never proven.[1]
The X45's reveal caused controversy and tensions between the CMISRS and the United States Colonial Marine Corps; while the X43 Barrage Flechette SMG and X46 Ballista Flechette were specifically used in counterterrorism operations expected of the CMISRS, some took the X45's status as a dedicated marksman rifle as confirmation that CMISRS intended to form their own line units.[1]

Originally manufactured in 2200 for the CMISRS, the weapon also saw a limited deployment within the Colonial Marines.[1]
Behind the scenes[]
The X45 Bombard appears in Aliens: Fireteam Elite and can be acquired from Staff Sergeant Han-jae Park for 9600 Requisition Points. It can be equipped by Gunner, Demolisher, Recon, and Doc classes. While the weapon's description specifies that the Bombard can utilize a bipod, this feature is not used in–game.
