The X1 Fireball was an experimental flamethrower manufactured by Armat Battlefield Systems and used by the United States Colonial Marine Corps. Designed to obviate the issues surrounding conventional flamethrowers, the Fireball made use of a proprietary incendiary gel for added precision and flexibility.

As Xenomorph outbreaks became increasingly common throughout the Frontier and Outer Rim Territories, the United States Colonial Marine Corps found itself increasingly reliant on incendiary weapons to combat infestations. While such devices were effective and inexpensive, they carried drawbacks including vulnerable fuel tanks, a risk of friendly fire, or temporary blinding in low–light environments when usage of BiMex Personal Shades was deemed impractical. A number of measures were proposed to eliminate such risks; while the Union of Progressive Peoples' Space Operating Forces employed a proprietary incendiary rocket launcher, the United Americas took much longer to propose a solution. The question was mired in heated political discussion for a decade, until Armat Battlefield Systems submitted the X1 for evaluation in the Century 23 Individual Incendiary Weapon Program and promoted it as an entirely new class of personal weapon.[1]
Overview[]
The X1 Fireball fired balls of experimental Composition D17 Gel. The weapon used standard Marine rechargeable batteries to ignite inert charges of the gel, and fired those charges on a ballistic trajectory like a grenade-launcher; the gel would explode into flames on impact. While the Fireball was less effective in close range than more conventional flamethrowers, it enabled the user to fire over obstacles.[1]

Originally manufactured in 2196 for the Colonial Marines, the Fireball also saw limited action with the United Americas national services.[1]

The X1 Fireball appears in Aliens: Fireteam Elite as part of the Season 3 update and can be acquired from Staff Sergeant Han-jae Park for 9600 Requisition Points. It can be equipped by Gunner, Technician, Phalanx, Recon and Lancer classes.
