"With its German FTL drive, Vietnamese weapons packages, and Russian 1VAN/3 computer, the Kremlin is a symbol of the great union of socialist nations that make up the UPP."
Kremlin-class hunter-destroyer description (from Colonial Marines Operations Manual)

The Norcomm-Liu VP-153D Kremlin Class Hunter-Destroyer, also known as the Kremlin, was a model of destroyer and the main capital ship of the Union of Progressive Peoples.

Development[]

During the mid-2160s, after Union of Progressive Peoples fleet engagements during the Arcturus Campaign, the Battle of the Red Line, and the Tientsin Campaign, the UPP needed to rethink their approach of warships to overpower their United Americas counterpart, the Conestoga-class. The result was the Kremlin, a large, smart, maneuverable, and heavily-armed warship designed to hunt and destroy other warships.

Overview[]

The Kremlin was divided into three sections: at the rear of the ship sat a spherical German-built Rohrmann FTL drive, while a massive bulbous cargo/weapons array was situated amidships, and a forward command dart bristling with dorsal and ventral antennae located fore. Dubbed the “komanda drotik”, the command section could be disengaged from the rest of the ship in case of a catastrophic drive or weapons array failure, and become an entirely independent ship with its own FTL drive and an aft-facing protective shield dish. The ship was run by a Russian 1VAN/3 supercomputer. The Kremlin's most unique feature was its complement of EMP missiles, nicknamed "Frigate Busters"; these were specifically designed to cripple the reactors of Conestoga class ships. Owing to its idiosyncratic appearance, the Kremlin was described as a "Christmas ornament impaled on a prickly drill bit" by the United States Colonial Marine Corps, while the Marine Aerospace Wings nicknamed it "Fatboy".[2]
