Our Earth is a quite big place to live. Human civilization, in past few centuries has grown drastically. Today, there are about 195 countries with over 4416 cities in the world. Fortunately, technology have made traveling to any far distant places easier than ever.

On our beloved planet, most of its regions are beautiful and much safer. This, unfortunately is not true for all parts. In the list below, I'm going to unveil the 49 most dangerous  cities in the world. This ranking is based on the risk to life from other humans (or more evil beings). This are the cities with highest homicide per 100,000 people compared to any other cities on the planet.

It's believed that corrupt politicians & officials are the major causes of this. Additionally, income inquality, drug trafficker gang activities & poverty can not be ignored.

It might be surprising, but 43 out of this 49 countries belongs to South Americas (most of which are poor countries). Since this region is also the primary (globally) source of Cocaine, its not unfair sometimes, to blame drug trafficking for some portion of this violence.

So when you plan your next trip, this list may become your life savior. Try avoiding any of the city mentioned below to safeguard your (& your loved once) life.

49. Durban, South Africa ( 34.43 Homicides per 100,000 people)[]

It's the third most populous metropolitan city of South Africa. The number of murders in Durban per 100,000 people is 34.43 takes it to the rank 49th in the list. It is one of the three cities of Africa included in this list.

48. Curitiba, Brazil (Homicide Rate: 34.92 per 100,000 people)[]

The capital of Southern Brazilian state Parana, Curitiba, is also a leading violent city. With over 34.92 murdered deaths per 100,000, it proudly claims the 48th Spot in this. It is also one of the 12 Brazilian cities which are member of this list.

47. Cucuta, Colombia ( Homicide Rate: 37.0 per 100,000 people)[]

With over 37.00 homicides per 100,000 people, Cucuta, at the border of Venezuela is at 47th position. The Latin American poor city is high in drug trafficking & gang activities, somehow responsible for high crime rates.

46. Vitoria, Brazil (Homicide Rate: 37.54 per 100,000 people)[]

Fortunately, the criminal activities and thus homicidal rates has declined quite much in past few years. However, Vitoria is still not safe enough to live. With homicidal rates of 37.54 per 100,000 people, the beach city earns 46th rank on the list.

45. Manaus, Brazil (Homicide Rate: 38.25 per 100,000 people)[]

In the city on the bank of Amazon river, clashes between police forces and drug gangs is no rare. Its believed that 70% of all homicides in Manaus are due to drug trafficking. Streets going bloodstormed isn't uncommon in the city, due to wars between rival gangs. With murder rate of 38.25 per 100k people, the Brazilian city is 45th most dangerous city in the world.

44. Macapa, Brazil (Homicide Rate: 38.45 per 100,000 people)[]

The Latin country, Brazil is known to be global capital of murders form past few years now. Macapa is one of the cause for the crown. The homicidal rate of 38.45 per 100,000 people, Macapa earns 44th place in the list.

43. Armenia, Colombia (Homicide Rate: 38.54 per 100,000 people)[]

Armenia is one of the hotspot worldwide crime. Its one of the four cities of Colombia, assuring position to the list. Crime rates are very high, not just in Armenia, but in most of the part of the unfortunate (poor) country. With 38.54 kills per 100k people, Armenia is at 43th rank for 2017.

42. Nelson Mandela Bay, South Africa (Homicide Rate: 39.19  per 100,000 people)[]

Named after the legendary peaceful person, the city is not that peaceful though. The Nelson Mandela Bay (one of the most unsafe city of S.A.) is violent enough to assure the 42th position to the list.

41. Aparecida de Goiania, Brazil (Homicide Rate: 39.48  per 100,000 people)[]

With 39.48 kills per 100,000 people, this is another Brazilian city arriving to the list. Aparecida de Goiania is 41st most dangerous for life city.

40. Obregon, Mexico (Homicide Rate: 42.02 per 100,000 people)[]

At the center of American continent is, Obregon, Mexico, another most life threatening city on earth. This Latin American country is going through serious criminal heat ups. The 42.02 murders/100,000 people are enough for Oregon's 40th rank.

39. Chihuahua, Mexico (Homicide Rate: 42.61 per 100,000 people)[]

Not the dog breed, but city of Chihuahua is at the border of USA. The Mexican city ranks 39th (worldwide) with 42.61 kills per 100k people. If you get there, take all possible precautions.

38. Cuiaba, Brazil (Homicide Rate: 42.71 per 100,000 people)[]

The South American city is the fourth most violent in Brazil and 38th most in the world. The Spanish speaking country is vast geographically and crime as well. The kill rates here are 42.61 per 100,000 people.

37. Terresina, Brazil (Homicide Rate: 42.84 per 100,000 people)[]

At the position 37th is yet another Brazilian crime hub, Terresina. 42.84 homicides per 100k people in Terresina are enough for 37th rank to the list.

36. Juarez, Mexico (Homicides rate: 43.63 per 100,000 people)[]

One of the most populated city of Mexico is yet another most killer city in the world. Juarez is worlds 36th most dangerous city according to reports with 43.63 murders per 100k humans.

35. Detroit, United States (Homicide Rate: 44.60 per 100,000 people)[]

The high-tech country is also high-tech in murder rates. With active rival gang movements, Detroit is one of four US cities making it to the list. Ease of weapon availability in this area are blamed for high homicides rates.

34. Fortaleza, Brazil (Homicide Rate: 44.98 Per 100,000 people)[]

The Brazilian beach city is not a good to enjoy your vacations (at least yet). With 44.98 murders per 100,000 people doesn't let it to be a ideal tour destination. Fortaleza is 34th among the most dangerous cities in the world.

33. New Orleans, United States (Homicide Rate: 45.17 Per 100,000 people)[]

One of the four cities of US, New Orleans is 33th most dangerous city in the world. The kill rates in the city are 45.17 per 100,000 people.

32. Sao Luis, Brazil (Homicide Rate: 45.41 Per 100,000 people)[]

Its one of the ancient and largest Brazilian & high in crime rate city. Sao Luis is a Bada*ss, 32nd most unsafe city globally with unnatural death rate of 45.41.

The capital of Latin island country, Kingston is also murder capital of the countries. Poverty, high unemployment & drug trafficking are always blamed for the scenario. The 45.43 is enough for its 31st rank.

This is the third Colombian city so far to appear in the list which obviously shows the unsafe face of the nation. This southwestern Colombian city, has the scary murder rate of 46.30 per 100k people. Palmira is ranked 30th in worlds most dangerous cities list.

29. Bracelona, Venezuela (Homicide Rate: 46.86 Per 100,000 people)[]

The crime rate in this South American region is on the rise as far as past few years are concerned. Barcelona is at 29th spot with killing rate of 46.86.

28. Joao Pessoa, Brazil (Homicide Rate: 47.57 Per 100,000 people)[]

Joao Pessoa is the 10th Brazilian city in the list so far. Illegal drugs are common in the country. Joao Pessoa is 28th best in crime city.

The beautiful beach city, going bloodbath is a norm here. Thus, Recife is on the 27th spot on the list of 50 most dangerous city on earth.

26. Mazatlan, Mexico (Homicide Rate: 48.75 Per 100,000 people)[]

The popular resort city of Mexico city may be favorite for tourist but is it safe? Well, can't guarantee! And after knowing its mass murder rate, which is 48.75 per 100k residents. Rethink!

Its just another horrific Brazilian city with homicide rate of 51.49 persons per 100,000 residents.

23. Culiacan Mexico (Homicide Rate: 51.81 Per 100,000 People)[]

Mexico is best place, I mean, as far as crimes are concerned. The homicidic city kills 51.81 persons per 100k people.

22. Guatemala City, Guatemala (Homicide Rate: 52.73 Per 100,000 people)[]

Its the killer capital of central american country Guatemala. The bad guys living in the city, kills 52.73 people every 100k residents. Guatemala city is worlds 22nd most criminally active area.

At the US border, is another dangerous Mexican city, Tijuana. With 53.06 murders every 100,000 people, its 21st most unsafe city on planet.

20. Cali, Colombia (Homicide Rate: 54.00 Per 100,000 People)[]

The Colombian city, Cali, is another deadly city ranked 20th most dangerous with 54.0 homicides every 100k residents.

The Afro-Brazilian cultured city, at Northeastern coastline, Salvador, seems not to slow down on violence. It is 19th most violent city.

The largest oil producing city of Brazil is also one of the largest dead body manufacturer. The city is a victim of uncontrolled drug traffickers. The city is 18th most unsafe place on planet.

17. Cumana, Venezuela (Homicide Rate: 59.31 Per 100,000 people)[]

The city, which once was 2nd highest in murder rate is now 17th. What does that mean? Crime rates have declined drastically from past couple of years! Still, a city can't be considered to be safe its homicide rate is 59.31.

Aracaju is third most dangerous city of Brazil. It is also 13th most dangerous city globally.

It is one of the most corrupt city with high rates of assault related crimes. The drug trafficking is also a big issue in the city. Natal is Brazil's most and worlds 10th most dangerous city. Avoid the city for now if possible!

The third most populous city & economic core of the country is also home to murderers. The homicide rate of the city is 72.02 and ranks 9th overall.

8. Ciudad Guayana, Venezuela (Homicide Rate: 82.84 Per 100,000 people)[]

Ciudad Guayana is a South American port city with murder rate of 82.84. It is worlds 8th most terrifying city.

7. San Salvador, El Salvador (Homicide Rate: 83.39 Per 100,000 people)[]

The capital of the country is capital of murders as well. Not just the drugs but the city is also facing issues of slavery.

It is second among most dangerous citis in country and 6th most violent worldwide.

Its the Mexico's 2nd most unsafe for human city.

It is the second most violent city in country & fourth most in the world. The killing rate of the city is 112.09 every 100k people.

3. San Pedro Sula, Honduras (Homicide Rate: 112.09 Per 100,000 people)[]

Its the fourth year in a row & the city is still within the top 3 violent city. What does it show? Clearly the crimes in the country doesn't seem to slow down in near future.

2. Acapulco, Mexico (Homicide Rate: 113.24 Per 100,000 people)[]

It is the worlds 2nd most killer city. Acapulco is home to drug traffickers and murderers & violent gangs. Its the country's best place for criminal activities.

1. Caracas, Venezuela (Homicide Rate: 130.35 Per 100,000 people)[]

Caracas, the South America's 6th most populous city is factory of bad guys. The city is worlds most highly insecure place on the face of earth. There's currently no other place in the world as violent as Caracas. The Venezuelian capital, shouldn't be traveled to if you're a nerd.
