An untitled Alien: Romulus sequel is an upcoming feature film in the Alien franchise. It was reported to be in the works in October 2024.[1]

Development[]

By August 2024, Fede Álvarez and other members of the Romulus crew had begun discussing what would happen when—or rather, if—Rain Carradine and Andy made it to Yvaga III. In an interview, Alvarez hinted that Yvaga III would not be the paradise it was purported to be in the film, which could provide the grounds for a sequel. However, he further stated that there were no immediate plans for a sequel, pointing out the fifty seven year gap between Alien and Aliens.[2]

Work on the sequel had begun by October of the same year. Comments from executive producer Steve Asbell have indicated that the film will continue to follow Rain and Andy's story.[3]

In April 2025, it was reported that the film will feature a Yautja.[4]

In September 2025, Fede Álvarez revealed that he had finished writing the script; however, he would not be directing the film, and that the studio would be in search of a new director to helm the sequel. [5] Álvarez wrote the script as he wanted to make sure no one killed off Rain and Andy at the start of the sequel, drawing negative comparisons to the deaths of Newt and Hicks at the start of Alien 3.[6]
