"This is Chief Cruz calling from the USS Marion. I'm sending a distress call on Weyland-Yutani channel 3-4-0-5."
Gabriel Cruz (from Alien: Annual #1)

The USS Francis Marion, most commonly referred to the USS Marion, was either a Conestoga-class troop transport, or a Bougainville-class attack transport ship.

History[]

In 2193, the USS Francis Marion departed Epsilon Station carrying Chief Gabriel Cruz, a select group of soldiers, and a combat synthetic named Charlie, on an assignment to neutralize a vigilante threat that overran Nishimura Station.

Aboard the Marion, Chief Cruz prepared for his mission while some of the other soldiers harassed Charlie, the teams assigned combat synthetic. Soon after, Charlie secretly initiated his own pre-determined operation aboard the Marion by exposing a previously detained human subject to a Xenomorph egg and the facehugger within, impregnating its host with the aforementioned Epsilon strain.

When the Marion had finally approached Nishimura Station, it was fired upon by a series of offensive anti-aircraft rockets that partially damaged the ships radio and homing beacon in the process. Four days went by before the crew successfully sent a distress call which ultimately went unanswered.

Over the next several days, Charlie went on to kill a number of crew members one by one, while the rest were subjected to fatal Alien attacks before revealing he was in fact a Hyperdyne Systems 120-A/2 synthetic, designated Ash, ordered to conduct a trial run experiment with the Epsilon strain Xenomorph aboard the Marion.

Before Ash could cause any more damage, Chief Cruz, the lone survivor of the entire ordeal, found a pulse rifle and used it to destroy Ash's synthetic body before escaping the Marion, unharmed, in a Type 337 EEV. Ash's active AI continued to collect and transmit datalogs on the Xenomorph, while the abandoned Marion was left drifting through space.

Trivia[]

  • The ships name was most likely inspired by the real life military officer, Francis Marion, also known as the Swamp Fox, who served in the American Revolutionary War.
  • Like the similarly-named DSMO Marion, the ship had ill-encounters with the Xenomorph as a result of some form of AI of Ash interfering to further Weyland-Yutani's goals.
