The USCSS Maginot, registration no. 294068, was a C-class deep space exploration vessel operated by the Weyland-Yutani Corporation.[1] In 2120, the Maginot crashed on Earth after recovering a Xenomorph sample; the wreckage was recovered by the Prodigy Corporation.[2]

History[]

The Maginot departed Earth in 2055 on a deep space exploration mission to obtain several different specimens of extra-terrestrial life. On the return, by the time the crew were 4 months away from being back on Earth in 2120, the mission had lasted a total of 65 years.

During a crew meal, it is mentioned they lost several men in obtaining the alien specimens (including Facehuggers, T. Ocellus, D. Plumbicare, and an unidentified "Leech" species) on behalf of science officer Chibuzo. Security officer Kumi Morrow reminded the crew that the specimens were the priority, and threatened to confine Schmuel to his quarters if he continued to joke about harming the samples. Sullivan also aired her grievances about fellow crew member Teng staring at her when she slept in her Hypersleep chamber.

Outbreak[]

Seventeen days away from Earth, a fire broke out in one of the Maginot's cargo bays, during which two Facehuggers escaped from their containment cells and attached to Captain Dinsdale and science officer Bronski. The fire damaged the ship's navigation systems to a critical level; turning the vessel into a missile barrelling towards Earth with almost no control. In an effort to save the two crewmen, medical officer Rahim attempted to remove the Facehugger from Dinsdale, but after cutting into the creature it spewed its acidic blood and burnt through his throat, instantly killing the Captain. Junior security officer Clem Madey woke Morrow from hypersleep shortly after Dinsdale's death and informed him of the fire, which Morrow instantly began to suspect was an intentional sabotage. Shmuel and his apprentice Malachite set to repairing the navigation systems, but it would require days of maintenance to regain control of the Maginot's flight mechanics.

Unable to help him, the crew opted to place Bronski into a hypersleep chamber to freeze the Facehugger's gestation process and seek out medical attention once they reached Earth. Zaveri informed MU-TH-UR of the losses and formally took command of the ship as acting captain, while Morrow began investigating the cause of the cargo bay fire, discovering an unidentifiable crew member had deliberately released the Facehuggers prior to the fire; further uncovering that the communication logs had been wiped from the ship's data logs.

As the crew slept, an explosion suddenly rocked the ship and blew a hole in the hull; another attack by the still-unknown saboteur. Shmuel revealed to Zaveri and Morrow that their fuel was down to 8% and they would soon be unable to change course from crash-landing on Earth, but they were interrupted by a containment breach alert in the cryostasis bay. Arriving there, the crew found Bronski's hypersleep chamber smashed open and his chest ripped apart from the inside, revealing the Facehugger's metabolism rendered it immune to hypersleep's freezing properties. Realising the creature was now loose on the ship, Morrow and Clem armed themselves with non-lethal firearms to capture and contain it; Morrow also refused to awaken the rest of the crew due to their additional stresses and fears.

In the Maginot's science wing, Chibuzo studied the Leech species' reaction to dead animal subjects, but was distracted T. Ocellus, failing to notice one of the Leeches unlocking the partially-open container they were inside. Using its hyper-intelligence to manipulate the situation, T. Ocellus annoyed Chibuzo into placing its container back onto a rack, allowing the escaped Leech to plant its larva inside Chibuzo's open water flask. Rahim suddenly entered and alerted Chibuzo to the escaped Leech; while containing it, she failed to lock T. Ocellus' capsule in place with clamps. After the two left, the creature began banging against its container, until it managed to topple itself and smash the glass to pieces, escaping into the lab.

The awake crew including Morrow, Zaveri, Clem, Teng, Shmuel, Malachite, Chibuzo, and Rahim all met in the ship's gallery, where Zaveri revealed their situation to the others. Morrow informed them that himself, Clem, and Zaveri would remain armed until he confirmed which of the crew were not the saboteur, and they would be travelling in pairs from then on. Suffering a coughing fit, Malachite drank from Chibuzo's flask, unknowingly swallowing six of the Leech tadpole larva.

Morrow interrogated Rahim and concluded he was innocent, then moved onto the openly-hostile Teng, who he highly suspected as the saboteur. Teng defended himself but cryptically informed Morrow that the hypersleep chamber computers could falsely register a crewmember inside, meaning the saboteur was awake while appearing under cryostasis. When the communication logs finally restored, Morrow discovered Chief Engineer Petrovich was in league with Prodigy Corporation CEO Boy Kavalier and had agreed to crash the ship into Prodigy territory so Kavalier could capture the specimens, in exchange for having his mind uploaded to a synthetic Hybrid body. Morrow entered the cryostasis bay armed, but found Petrovich was in fact missing from his hypersleep chamber.

In engineering, Shmuel and Malachite discussed their future prospects after their half-a-century mission while repairing the sabotaged systems. Malachite suddenly became ill and prepared to vomit, but instead spat out a mouthful of blood before collapsing. Shmuel took him to the medical bay where Rahim began to scan his body.

Zaveri and Chibuzo returned to the science wing, where Chibuzo discovered with horror that T. Ocellus had escaped containment. The ship was suddenly rocked by a power surge that triggered emergency lighting, prompting the two to quickly leave, unaware T. Ocellus was lurking underneath a table nearby, though it was unable to escape the room before Chibuzo and Zaveri quickly evacuated, heading towards the medical bay.

With most of the crew reunited at medical, Rahim discovered the smaller Leech creatures nestled along Malachite's digestive tract. Though Morrow objected on grounds of contagion, Zaveri ordered Rahim and Chibuzo to operate on the young engineer and attempt to save him. Rahim used a clamp to try and remove one of the Leeches, but it reflexively sprayed a deadly toxin after being removed that almost instantly killed him and Chibuzo. Concurrently Teng, alone in the interrogation room, was ambushed by the now fully-grown Xenomorph from the vents and killed, which Clem soon discovered. He arrived in medical and informed the survivors, to which Morrow took command as head of security, ordering Zaveri and Shmuel to head to engineering and transfer control to the bridge, while he and Clem went to find Petrovich and stop from causing further damage.

In a state of shock from Rahim and Chibuzo's deaths, Zaveri froze in place when Shmuel attempted to calm her, deciding to leave alone. The Xenomorph then descended from the vents and stared down Zaveri, knocking her down and making her lose her sidearm. The Xenomorph pursued her in a lengthy chase across the ship until she managed to seal herself in a room outside of MU-TH-UR's control centre, also finding a motionless Shmuel inside. After locking out the Xenomorph, Shmuel turned to Zaveri and revealed that T. Ocellus had taken control of him and implanted itself in his eye socket; attacking and knocking her unconscious.

Morrow also arrived and forced the door open, holding Shmuel at gunpoint until the Xenomorph returned and entered the room. Unable to wake Zaveri in time, Morrow rushed for the MU-TH-UR control centre and knocked Shmuel aside, forcing T. Ocellus in his body and the Xenomorph into a frenzied fight that ended with the creature abandoning Shmuel's mangled corpse.

Zaveri regained consciousness and ran for the control centre, yelling at Morrow to let her inside; the Xenomorph was still fighting T. Ocellus and distracted for the moment. Morrow wordlessly approached the door and welded it shut with his cybernetic blowtorch attachment, leaving Zaveri to her fate. The Xenomorph then ran to the control centre door and violently ripped Zaveri apart, then began smashing at the door to reach Morrow. He informed MU-TH-UR that the crew was dead and a crash course with Earth was unavoidable, but he informed it, and by extension Weyland-Yutani, that the specimens were secure. Just as the Xenomorph forced the door open, Morrow ducked into the embedded impact room and braced himself for the Maginot's crash landing.

The ship clips an orbital space yard and then proceeds to crash land into a tower complex in the middle of Prodigy City, a metropolis administered by the Prodigy Corporation in New Siam.
