The Thunderbolt Mk.2 Autocannon was a heavy machine gun manufactured by the Hyperdyne Corporation and used by the Union of Progressive Peoples and the United States Colonial Marine Corps.
Development[]
Like the Twilight v.4, the Thunderbolt Mk.2 was developed due to the abundance of 12.7mm Cal.50 ammunition seized in corporatist armories after their retreat during the Hyades Revolts.[1]
Overview[]
The Mk.2 fired 12.7×99mm .50 cal cased ammunition, with the version utilized by the United States Colonial Marine Corps using explosive–tipped rounds. Usually, the Thunderbolt was ideally used on fixed emplacements or mounted on vehicles; insurgents first mounted the Thunderbolt on captured Exocolony Patrol Vehicles, but as most of them were either destroyed or disabled due to lack of maintenance, they used them on horses. The Mk.2 could be fired on foot, but necessitated the use of a power harness because of its weight. Due to its substantial recoil, its rate of fire was also artificially limited to avoid knocking the gunner off of their feet, and there was a delay between firing and impact of its ammunition in long distance combat given the round's large size.[1]
Notable users[]
Initially created in 2158 for Hyades colonial militias, the weapon's use was extended to the Union of Progressive Peoples' Space Operating Forces and national services. The Colonial Marines and national services of the United Americas also used it, as well as Mondo™-Brand Professional Extermination Services.[1]

The Thunderbolt Mk.2 Autocannon appears in Aliens: Fireteam Elite as part of the Pathogen Expansion DLC and can be acquired by finishing the Promise of a Flower: Approach mission. It can be equipped by Demolisher and Lancer classes.
