The Last Supper, also known as Alien: Covenant - Prologue: Last Supper, is a 2017 short film directed by Luke Scott[1] and starring Katherine Waterston, Michael Fassbender, Danny McBride and James Franco. Created as part of the viral marketing campaign for Alien: Covenant, the film shows the crew of the USCSS Covenant sitting down to a final meal before setting off on their colonization mission.

Plot

Aboard the Covenant, the crew prepare to enter hypersleep before their long journey to Origae-6. After Walter finishes carrying out pre-sleep health checks on the crew, Captain Branson turns in early, suffering from a fever. As soon as he is off the bridge, the rest of the crew begin partying, drinking, gambling and joking. As the festivities become increasingly rowdy, Oram and his wife Karine discretely discuss how they disapprove of several other crewmembers' hard-partying attitude.

The crew's attention then turns to a last meal before their long sleep. While reminiscing about home-cooked food they will likely never experience again, Upworth begins violently choking; Walter has to step in and dislodge the offending morsel, saving her life. The relieved crew express their thanks, after which Daniels makes a speech about their journey together, before raising a glass to the Covenant.

Trivia

  • Clips from the short film, specifically during Daniels' closing speech, were included in the trailers for Alien: Covenant, despite never being intended for the film itself.
  • In the film, Captain Branson states he is unwell and turning in early because he is "burning up", in hindsight an obvious pointer to his fate in Alien: Covenant, in which he is burned alive inside his cryotube.
