"You named it after the place in Greek myth where souls are judged and those found receive punishment?"
"I, uh, think those names are
auto–generated."
"You should look into that.

LV–797, nicknamed Tartarus, was a United Americas mining planet orbiting the star GL257AB in the Outer Rim Territories' Tartarus Sector. It was the homeworld of the Harvester, a species of giant burrowing mammal.

History[]

A terrestrial planet orbiting the star GL257AB in the Tartarus Sector of the Outer Rim Territories, Tartarus was settled by the United Americas prior to 2161. The UA and Seegson established a mining colony on the planet; however, in 2161 a horde of burrowing mammals dubbed Harvesters devastated the settlement.[1]

A decade later, the UA made another attempt at exploiting Tartarus' reserves of minerals and heavy metals. Several illegal prospecting outfits proceeded to strip the world, prompting the UA to step up their own operations and resulting in the Prospector Wars. Tartarus was eventually picked clean, and the Harvesters violently resisted. An illicit trade revolving around the export of juvenile beasts sprang up thereafter.[1]

Climate and terrain[]

Tartarus featured a temperate cold climate. Local terrain consisted of deserts and ravines.[1]

Flora and fauna[]

The Harvester, a species of burrowing mammal, was native to Tartarus.[1] In 2108, pioneer J.V. Gorham made plans to export a shipment of the creatures to Gorham's Colony on the Far Spinward Colonies planet KOI-2650.01.[2]

Economy[]

Valuable exports on Tartarus included minerals, heavy metals, and rare elements, as well as Harvesters.[1]

Population[]

The population of Tartarus stood at 10,000 as of 2183. A number of Working Joe synthetics were also employed at the local mining colony.[1]
