"Similar" to Adults Regurgitating on Victims' Faces[]

I've removed the bit about the means by which Facehugger's chemically subdue their victims being similar to how adults are described as regurgitating some kind of liquid onto people's faces to knock them out in River of Pain. Facehuggers are essentially said to sedate people using chemicals that are administered through skin contact. In comparison, we have no idea how the scenario described in River of Pain actually works. The only description of it, if I recall correctly, is when someone witnesses it occurring at a distance. The fluid is said to be regurgitated onto the victim's face in a manner similar to vomiting, yet this is something Facehuggers have never been seen to do. Furthermore, the regurgitated fluid itself could have any number of avenues via which it affects the body — it may enter the body via skin contact, but equally it might need to be ingested through the mouth, or might affect the victim through their respiratory system... It might even simply smother them and asphyxiate them. Point being, I think saying it is "similar" is a little misleading, because we have no clue how the process described in River of Pain actually works. It's a very fleeting description.-- LEIGH BURNE(Talk) 14:55, November 17, 2015 (UTC)

Fair enough but I didn't mean that the facehuggers vomit it lol merely that the substance vomited by Adults  incapacitates its victim seemingly just by being in contact with it i.e similar to how facehuggers are theorized to induce a coma state by skin absorption, personally I think its through the probocis, the tail would be used to force its victim to gasp for breath, allowing entry plus most of the hosts that are rapidly sedated make noises indicating that they are gagging on something whereas Buddy benson was only making muffled noises but clearly not gagging type, and he wasn't rendered unconscious until off screen )the homeless seem to have been knocked out literally in 7 odd seconds, I think one of the them was less than that, Buddy wasn't though. I know these are not exactly perfect examples given the inconsistencies in the lore. Another reason why as well would be if skin contact was a method then those who simly had it their hand would be affected, Ripley and a few other character has gripped a facehugger with no ill effects. Apologies if this convulted, my heads everywhere today, I can't focus. 15:24, November 17, 2015 (UTC)

Sorry I'm only just replying, between being busy and the wiki being locked for maintenance I haven't had a chance until now! The truth is, we don't know much about how Facehuggers sedate people, we only have clues and titbits from various EU sources like Alien: The Weyland-Yutani Report. Add to that the fact the life cycle is often inconsistent in the franchise anyway, as you say, then the result is it's kinda hard to say exactly how they work. But no need to apologise :) -- LEIGH BURNE(Talk) 09:35, November 20, 2015 (UTC)

Main Image[]

Good job again, Cruentus, on getting tabs working for us. But I'm wondering if its really necessary to use them for the main image on this page? The Facehugger's design has changed only very superficially from film to film and so I'd question whether its necessary to include a picture of one from every movie. It seems like needless clutter. Not to mention the fact some of these pictures aren't exactly terribly clear or informative — the one from Alien3 being an X-ray of its skeleton, for example, or the one from Resurrection showing the Facehugger mostly covered up.

I think on articles where things do change dramatically from one appearance to another this kind of thing would be great (e.g. the Royal Facehugger), but I'm not sure its needed here.-- LEIGH BURNE(Talk) 11:03, November 11, 2016 (UTC)

Penetrating grass[]

Just where does it say that Facehuggers can burn through glass? I can't seem to find the source for it on this site. Long live the Sith (talk) (Contribs) 20:55, February 2, 2018 (UTC)

Watch the first film, play Alien: Isolation, read Fire and Stone along with a few other books. There is plenty of sources about Facehuggers melting through glass. -- The Cruentus(Talk) 11:00, February 6, 2018 (UTC)
Yeah, as Cruentus says, the first film quite obviously shows that they can get through glass — Kane's helmet faceplate offers no resistance at all.-- LEIGH BURNE(Talk) 13:05, February 7, 2018 (UTC)
Now that you mention it, I did read in The Illustrated Story where Dallas says that the Facehugger "seems to have... burned through the faceplace of his helmet." Just needed to find the words for it. --Long live the Sith (talk) (Contribs) 20:58, March 13, 2018 (UTC)

Alligator[]

Was reading https://comicvine.gamespot.com/forums/battles-7/superman-vs-alien-facehugger-1312/ and 10 years 10 months ago Mkakta mentions "see the end of the batman vs. alien where the alien impregnates an alligator"

Searching I can't find much more info on this. https://www.avpgalaxy.net/forum/index.php?topic=38954.0 on 29 May 2011 frostedone commented "Due to the size and shape of the facehugger it seems like it would be unable to impregnate some creatures like an alligator or elephant." and nobody brought up anything about this Batman Alligator.

Does anyone know if this happened? Looking for an issue number / date/ page number if possible. If this happened I think it's definitely something worth mentioning since alligators have a dramatically different jaw shape and size, can bite harder, and hold their breath longer than humans. talk2ty 15:44, February 26, 2018 (UTC)

Superman[]

Aforementioned thread also mentioned something about Superman regurgitating a facehugger's egg once his powers returned under a yellow sun. Seems a significant mention regarding how bonded they become. talk2ty 15:44, February 26, 2018 (UTC)

overpowering Vampirella[]

Anyone able to find an image of this? I think this would be good to include. Seems more significant than overpowering Superman (we don't know how weak he got from lack of sun, could've been human-level) since she was presumably at full vampiric strength.

I don't know if this necessarily means it's STRONGER, maybe more slippery? There is mention of 'leverage' but I'd have to see the picture to understand what happened better.

All I could find was a shot of it leaping at her https://www.bleedingcool.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/AliensVampi06-8-e1455117291645-600x280.jpg so if she grabbed it and it out-wrestled her somehow, it probably happened right after that. Basiced on the filename I'm guessing this was in issue 6... okay I looked it up, happens on page 10 of issue 6 but she shoots it with a shotgun so that's not the one which got her... must've happened earlier, guess I should read the entire thing to find out.

I haven't read any Vampirella books so I don't know much about her, like if she needs to breath like humans do, since many vamps in comics seem to be fine without oxygen.

In that case I'm not sure how suffocation could create incentive to open the mouth. Could a vampire still have a gasp reflex from choking even if they no longer needed to breath? Or maybe she was trying to bite it and the tentacle got shoved down faster than she could react?

I figure egg-laying takes at least a couple seconds though, so you'd think she'd have time to bite down on it then. Could this prove that the muscles holding the egg-tunnel open are stronger than a vampire's jaw-closing muscles? Not puncturable by vampire fangs? A tongue with vampire-enhances strength could not press it shut? A vampire esophagus is unable to vomit it?

Even though this is all non-canon, it's interesting to imagine what this could imply about the makeup of facehuggers if this is what they could do. talk2ty 16:14, February 26, 2018 (UTC)

Engineered Facehugger[]

Do we have a source for the whole Engineered Facehugger section? In the AVP arcade game where Infectoids are present, nothing is mentioned about any Engineered Facehuggers from what I remember. I am aware "Infectoid Zombies" appeared in the Aliens arcade game and I haven't played that so maybe that is where it is from but I haven't been able to find anything on it. --The Creature Slayer (talk) (Contribs) 21:47, March 8, 2020 (UTC)
