The National Dynamics SunSpot "Good Boy", also referred to as the Good Boy, was a model of combat robot that resembled a canine and had been deployed by a branch of the United States Colonial Marine Corps known as the Midnighters on LV-991 in the year 2184.

Characteristics[]

Designed to fold and compact their bodies, Good Boys were deployed from dropships via specialized missile pods.[1] After being launched, the robots guided themselves to a selected landing site before their small rockets sloughed away and their legs unfurled.[1]

In addition to their great strength, agility, and heavy armor, Good Boys are equipped with a collapsible acoustic cannon on each side of their frames, capable of bursting human eardrums from 100 yards away and being used to sonar-map areas for nearby fireteams.[2] When these weapons are used in concert, they are able to suppress and disorient even very large swarms of xenomorphs. [3] Should these tactics be deemed inadequate, they can withdraw their acoustic weapons and unfold a set of sentry SAWs, each rated to kill 10 xenomorphs per minute.[4] When ammunition runs low, individuals will sacrifice themselves by smashing into crowds of enemies to draw attention for the remaining members of its group to fire upon.[5]

Other features of the model include omnidirectional lamps[6] and specialized claws which enable them to run across walls.[7]

History[]

Initially designed by Michael Bishop's robotics team[8], the Good Boys were described as being "remedial for someone who creates life" and known to be used for containing and capturing xenomorph outbreaks. One group of the robots was deployed to the Charybdis colony in 2184, accompanying a group of colonial marines on a mission to recover the UAEV Blackstar and capture Dr. Blue Marsalis, being led by Kylie Duncan and coordinated by Sora Matsushita against the survivors of the United Americas attempt to take over the colony. During the mission, the group of robots was used to great effect against the xenomorph swarms within, but were ultimately destroyed in a massive battle within the Engineer ruins beneath the planet's surface.
