"But it ain't just that. Why does your pal need a pal? I figure the Engineer's come here to get some job done. And he needs a friend active to take care of unfinished business. Business like the pesky human vermin he's seen around this place."
Galgo Helder referring to the two Engineers (from Prometheus: Life and Death)

The Second Engineer was an Engineer encountered by the United States Colonial Marine Corps. He was awoken from stasis on the moon LV-223 by the Life and Death Engineer, and was assigned by him to hunt down and kill the Marines that the latter had encountered, alongside all other remaining life present on the moon.

It was finally killed after Captain Paget managed to gun it down after it became exposed to Chemical A0-3959X.91 – 15, rendering it vulnerable to gunfire.

Characteristics and Traits[]

The Second Engineer was a true force of nature, tasked with the merciless goal of purging all life on LV-223, human and alien alike. As such, he served as a cold, emotionless enforcer who did not hesitate to achieve his orders of genocide by leaving a wake of destruction wherever it went in its relentless pursuit of the humans. Even upon being approached by Melville, who attempted to reason with the being, he was ultimately un-moved by his words and attempted to kill him.

The Second served as a testament to the true physical and technological threat the Engineer species posed, to humankind or otherwise, with even the Elder Ahab hesitant to engage him in combat. He was also presumably able to eventually kill the LV-223 Queen with its bare hands, in spite of being impaled in the abdomen by the latter.

Biography[]

Early Life[]

During an unknown period, the Engineer had entered stasis in a Sarcophagus within the Engineer temple on the moon LV-223. He was likely encountered by Derrick Russell in 2179, but was not able to awaken him.

Awakening[]

After the Life and Death Engineer landed on LV-223 (with the Marines on the ship as unwanted stowaways), he went on to approach an Engineer temple. Inside, he awakened a fellow Engineer from a sarcophagus-like object and assigned him to wipe out all remaining life on the planet.

Geared up, the Second Engineer waited outside of the temple as the first emerged with two ampules of Chemical A0-3959X.91 – 15, intent on traveling to Earth and destroying the human race. The two were being observed by Geryon survivor Galgo Helder and Yautja Elder Ahab, who left to warn the Marines, who had recently abandoned the ship and teamed up with Angela Foster's group.

The group devised a plan to all leave the moon. Whilst Sergeant Roth, Singer, Foster and Humble dealt with the first Engineer. Galgo and Ahab were to occupy the second.

As the second Engineer patrolled the jungle, he was suddenly ambushed by Galgo and Ahab, although initially getting the upper hand, the second eventually managed to overpower the two, forcing them to retreat and hide as the Engineer torched the jungle with his weapon, before eventually moving on.

Battle with the Marines and Queen[]

"You don't understand a word I'm saying -- but you understand threats, don't you? You understand threats!"
Chris Hanlock to the LV-223 Queen (from Aliens: Life and Death)

The Marines of the Hasdrubal subsequently landed a dropship onto the moon to rescue the recently captured Chris Hanlock, who was taken by mutated Xenomorphs to be impregnated with a Queen. As Galgo and Ahab encountered the ship, with Galgo considering hijacking it, his plan was interrupted, as the Engineer detonated the ship and walked off to find the Marines.

The Queen seemingly kills the Engineer.

As Paget and her squad Marines had only just recently quelled a Xenomorph attack, the Engineer ambushed them, now armed with dual-wield rifles. The Marines fought back but to no success, suffering numerous losses.

As the Engineer slowly made his way into the entrance of the nest, the hive's Queen erupted from the ground and attacked him. The Engineer put up a tremendous fight but was eventually impaled through the stomach by the Queen's tail, presumably killing him.

The Marines subsequently retreated into the Engineer temple where they fought off an army of Xenomorphs with the assistance of the previously encountered Tartarus Clan. Unbeknownst to them, the Engineer had survived, albeit he was gravely wounded, and limped all the way to their destination, determined to finish his mission.

Return[]

"You're hurt. This needn't end in death. Do you understand me? There's no need for this. We're all God's children. All of us. You and me. Aren't we? Or did you make us? If you made us, why the hell do you want us dead?"

The Engineer eventually managed to ambush Paget and Jill and attacked them. Both easily escaped and alerted the other marines of his presence. They opened fire at the Engineer but to no effect, leading to them retreating into the temple. Seegson asset-stripper Melville intervened and confronted the Engineer, trying to reason with it and wishing for no needless violence. It did not not comply, however, and grabbed Melville and threw him to the ground. As it prepared to deliver the finishing blow, Melville was saved by Freebody after she gunned the being down with her Smartgun, before the two retreated with the others.

The group eventually decided to use the Engineer's black goo against him, pouring an ampule of the liquid over the hallway where they had first entered. The Engineer arrived and stepped on the liquid. The goo reacted aggressively to his bio-suit and electrocuted him, his shield then dropped, giving Paget the opportunity to gun down the Engineer for good, finally killing him.
