- ―Report concerning the SSV Võ Nguyên Giáp (from Alien: The Roleplaying Game — Colonial Marines Operations Manual)
The SSV Võ Nguyên Giáp was a VP-153D Kremlin Class Hunter-Destroyer in service with the Union of Progressive Peoples. It was deployed to O'Bannon's World to retrieve vital data from the downed UPP medical vessel SSV Glory of the Proletariat,[2] and was subsequently captured by the United States Colonial Marine Corps.[3] The ship was later used by the shadowy Deep Void group during a coup d'état attempt against the United Americas Allied Command.[4]
History[]
O'Bannon's World and takeover[]
In 2184, the VP-153D Kremlin Class Hunter-Destroyer SSV Võ Nguyên Giáp was sent to retrieve data from the Union of Progressive Peoples medical ship SSV Glory of the Proletariat, which had crashed on the moon O'Bannon's World.[2] Upon arriving at the moon, the Võ Nguyên Giáp engaged the United States Colonial Marine Corps warship USS Tamb'Itam; during the chaos, the Võ Nguyên Giáp deployed two UPP-DS3 Accipiter dropships carrying Praporshchik Maciej Komaszyło and his Space Operating Forces commandos to obtain the data,[5] as well as an MiG-730 Aerospace Interceptor to serve as a relay for Komaszyło and his troops.[6] Ultimately, the Nguyên was damaged and forced to withdraw; however, several cargo tanks aboard the ship were ruptured, disgorging the neomorphic motes stored therein and causing crewmembers to spawn neomorph creatures. The Marines from the Tamb'Itam boarded the ship and managed to secure it, rescue the surviving crew, and exterminate the neomorphs. The ship was later seized by Deep Void.[3]
Siege of Lamont Prime[]
The Nguyên was later used by General Delyla Vaughn to perform a false flag operation in Garrison System Prime and assassinate the Secretary of Defense Joëlle de la Cruz and the United Americas Allied Command command council, while framing the UPP for the act. The ship was piloted by Blackguard commandos and stocked with Biodrone Xenomorphs slated for deployment at the Safe Haven colony planetside.[4] The coup ultimately failed.
Behind the scenes[]
The SSV Võ Nguyên Giáp appears in Alien: The Roleplaying Game — Colonial Marines Operations Manual and features during the "Operation Blaze of Glory" and "Operation Octopus Garden" missions. The ship shares a name with former Vietnamese Minister of Defense Võ Nguyên Giáp.[7]
