- "It belongs to the church and that's whom its going back to. Or I'm not your captain."
- ―Raphael Adolini regarding the treasure and his crew (from Predator: 1718)
Raphael Adolini was the Italian captain of a pirate galleon. In 1718, whilst ashore off of the Guinea Coast, Africa, Adolini and his crew encountered a Predator that slaughtered many of the crew.
Biography[]
Teaming up with Yautja and Death[]
Landing on a small island, Raphael was in a dispute with his crew regarding their latest stolen treasure. A pious man despite his piracy, Adolini demands they return the gold stolen from a church (also citing that the theft involved murdering a priest), and the crew respond with a mutiny.
Whilst defending himself from his men, the Elder Predator Greyback emerged and joined the slaughter. Initially attacking it, Raphael briefly joined forces with the creature to dispatch their attackers back-to-back.
With the crew dead, Adolini prepared to face off against the Yautja, before a straggler shot him in the back. Mortally wounded, he gifted the Yautja with his personal flintlock pistol before dying. The Yautja proceeded to bury Adoloni out of respect before leaving Earth.
Legacy[]
In 1997, Adolini's pistol was gifted by the same Predator to LAPD officer Mike Harrigan as a reward for having managed to kill one of their own clan. The inscription on the pistol read Raphael Adolini 1715.
Behind the Scenes[]
The first reference to Adolini was in the film Predator 2. The novelization for the film had the date on the gun written to be 1640 rather than 1715 as seen in the film. The story of Adolini appeared in the short story Predator: 1718 which was part of the anthology comic A Decade of Dark Horse #1.
