Predators: Surviving Life, also known as Predators: Preserve the Game,[1] Predators: The Official Sequel or simply Predators, is a one-shot comic book that was first published by Dark Horse Comics in July 2010. It was written by David Lapham, pencilled by Allan Jefferson, inked by David Rivera and Jordi Tarragona, colored by Michelle Madsen, lettered by Nate Piekos, and edited by Scott Allie, Sierra Hahn, Freddye Lins and John Schork, with cover art by Sean Phillips. The comic continues the story of Royce and Isabelle on the game preserve after the events of the film.
Predators: Surviving Life was one of four comics published to tie into the 2010 film, the others being the prequel stories Predators: Welcome to the Jungle and Predators: A Predatory Life, and an adaptation of the movie, titled Predators: Beating the Bullet.
In Dark Horse's Predator comics line, Predators: Surviving Life was preceded by Predators, published concurrently with Predators: Beating the Bullet, and was followed by Predator: Fire and Stone.
Publisher's Summary[]
Set a few weeks after the climax of Robert Rodriguez's Predators film, the remaining survivors still struggle to find some existence on the alien planet where they are hunted. Hope of outlasting the alien hunters still lives; they have a plan to get away, and they just might be able to pull it off!
Plot[]
At the end of the film, Royce and Isabelle were left as the only remaining human characters. They fought off the beasts hunting them and were left stranded on the planet, awaiting the next barrage of alien creatures and hoping to eventually find a way back to Earth.
Surviving Life picks up several weeks afterward. Royce and Isabelle have split up according to Royce’s wishes, but now Royce realizes he needs her help, so he seeks her out and joins back up with her. A romance blooms between the two. At the same time, it becomes apparent that Royce has been designated as some sort of champion by the Predators for defeating any opponents they have set before him. This is indicated by their gift to him of a set of human-specific Predator armor.
Together, Royce and Isabelle are then forced to face off against a new, enormous, four-armed Predator. As they work together to kill the beast, Royce begins to feel more and more strongly for Isabelle, even while he tries to guard himself against such feelings.

Reprint History[]
Dark Horse Comics[]
All three Predators comics — prequel series, adaptation and sequel — were later collected into a single trade paperback released in October 2010.
Marvel Comics[]
Following Marvel Comics' acquisition of the rights to Predator comic books, the comic was collected as part of Marvel's Predator: The Original Years Volume 2 collection, alongside many other early Dark Horse stories. The collection was released on May 21, 2024.
Behind the Scenes[]
The comic's story was later retold and expanded in the game Predator: Hunting Grounds. In the Isabelle Tapes found in the game's collectibles, Isabelle, voiced by Alice Braga recounts the story and reveals how the Predator armor given to Royce allowed him to find the Predator landing site and unlock two Predator ships for their use. This allows Royce to fly off into the unknown to seek out the Predators while Isabelle manages to fly home towards Earth, explaining how she reappears during the game's events.
Writer David Lapham also wrote the story A Predatory Life in the Predators miniseries, which served as a prequel to the film focussing on Royce.
Trivia[]
- The comic prominently features a four-armed Predator that Royce and Isabelle have to defeat. The concept of a four-armed Predator was previously used in the unreleased mini-comic Aliens: Hive Wars.
