The Hyperdyne Systems PPZ-49 Vol, also known as the Vol, or "Ox", was a type of submachine gun. It was mostly employed by the Union of Progressive Peoples, and was licensed for limited use by forces of the United Americas and the Three World Empire during the 22nd and 23rd centuries.
Development[]
Created by the Zaytsev Design Bureau, the PPZ–49 Vol was designed for the Union of Progressive Peoples' Ministry of Space Security for use in surface facilities, and saw continuous manufacture and constant improvement after its initial deployment. Urban folklore held that the Vol was designed so that MSS kill–squads could rapidly "liquidate" staff in the event of a facility security breach, with its light armor–piercing ability supposedly allowing it to penetrate the sturdy metal tables of communal dining halls. No verfiable account of this allegation was ever discovered, and it was believed that the story was circulated by the MSS itself to encourage security–conscious behavior.[1]

Notable users[]
Originally manufactured in 2149 exclusively for the UPP's Ministry of Space Security forces, a variant of the PPZ–49 Vol based on the model used by the Union of Progressive People's Army's KDV brigades was later licensed for use by the United States Colonial Marine Corps through Hyperdyne Systems' Independent Core System Colonies–based subsidiaries. The Three World Empire and other private military contractors also managed to secure licenses for the firearm.[1]

The PPZ–49 Vol appears in Aliens: Fireteam Elite as part of the Season 2 update and can be acquired from Staff Sergeant Han-jae Park for 9600 Requisition Points. It can be equipped by Gunner, Technician, Phalanx, Recon and Lancer classes.
