The Project 649 High–Energy–Laser, alalternately dubbed the P.649 HEL, was an energy weapon manufactured by the Weyland-Yutani Corporation and used by the Three World Empire, the United States Colonial Marine Corps, and the Independent Core System Colonies.
Development[]
According to its developers the Weyland-Yutani Corporation, the Project 649 High–Energy–Laser P.649 was to evolve the concept of small arms for the twenty–third century. According to other sources, conversely, the P.469 HEL was rushed into production in an unfinished state to counter the Hyperdyne Corporation's EVI-87 Zvezda Plasma Rifle. Based on pulse–beam technology used in asteroid mining operations, the P.649 was designed to provide accurate, variable–power penetrative fire against armored EVA suits and vehicles.[1]
Overview[]
The P.649's power was provided by high-capacity rechargeable nanowire cells. The weapon, while still in a prototype state, was highly accurate and had to be used with an M56 combat harness due to its weight. It could also be plugged into a vehicle port or any kind of portable generator such as an H-fuel cell or solar-voltaic array when used in a fixed defensive position, providing nearly limitless power. While it was an energy weapon, the P.649 delivered a kick when firing due to the lithium PCM heat sinks that cycled between each shot. However, the power cells, while rechargeable, were costly and bore a price tag of 100,000 United American dollars. Moreover, the weapon needed to be piped to a radiator mounted on the the backpack of a Mk.43 Pressure Suit to be used in vacuum.[1]
Notable users[]
The prototype was released in 2191 exclusively for Weyland-Yutani's corporate security. It later saw limited deployment within the United States Colonial Marine Corps, the Three World Empire's Royal Marines Commandos, and various security forces in the Independent Core System Colonies.[1]

The P.649 appears in Aliens: Fireteam Elite as part of the Season 4 update and can be acquired from Staff Sergeant Han-jae Park for 9600 Requisition Points. It can be equipped by Demolisher and Lancer classes.
