The Ox–440 HAMPV Troop Transport was a multipurpose vehicle built by Mikoyan-Liu for the Union of Progressive Peoples' military. Despite its combat–specific profile, the Ox also found favor with civilian users on non–UPP worlds.

Overview

Built by Mikoyan-Liu, the Ox–440 HAMPV Troop Transport was based on the chassis of a heavy construction truck, and massed 16.1 meters in length and three meters in height. In addition, the Ox–440 ran on six all–terrain wheels that made it suitable for use on any surface. Able to move at a top speed of 68 kilometers per hour, the Ox–440 was highly versatile and could fulfil several roles, including that of a troop transport, cargo truck, mobile artillery, or command center. Its interior spaces were essentially self–contained environments, enabling the Ox to operate underwater and in vacuum. The Ox's default weapon configuration included three 20mm gatling gun turrets, a phased plasma pulse cannon turret, and a multidirectional flame unit; however, it could be modified depending on mission requirements. The Ox required a small crew, though it could carry up to two full Union of Progressive Peoples Space Operating Forces squads in its troop transport configuration. In its typical military loadout, the UPP's VP-153D Kremlin Class Hunter-Destroyer could transport four Ox–440s. The Ox could also be carried by the Mi-220 Krokodil Attack Dropship.

Due to the perennial availability of UPP surplus, a number of Ox transports were stripped of their weapons and used by civilians on United Americas and Three World Empire–aligned Frontier colony worlds.

History

Several Ox–440 transports were aboard the Chinese military vessel Xinjiang in 2179; the units were emblazoned with the Chinese flag rather than that of the UPP.

Ox–440 transports were used at the Ouragan Testing Facility on the UPP planet KOI-571.02 to transport equipment. The facility's vehicle bay could accommodate twelve of the transports, though only three were present during a United States Colonial Marine Corps insertion in 2184.
