O'Bannon's World was a humid jungle moon in the NN4374 System located in the Frontier's Borderline Region.
History[]
O'Bannon's World took its name from from United States Colonial Marine Corps member Lieutenant Chance O'Bannon, who was killed by the moon's local plant life in 2163 during the Dog War. The events surrounding O'Bannon's death and the naming of the moon were related by retired Master Sergeant Michael Scudieri in 2184. At some point prior to 2184, Colonial Marine Gerald Wayne "Rat" Finks served a tour of duty on O'Bannon's World. As of 2184, O'Bannon's World was the site of the Last Chance settlement, populated by former Chinese/Asian-Nation Cooperative refugees who had harnessed the magnetic interference from the moon's poles to power their generators. The community was led by Dinh Ngoc Ha as of that time. Also in that year, the Union of Progressive Peoples medical vessel SSV Glory of the Proletariat crashed on O'Bannon's World. The USCMC and the UPP's Space Operating Forces subsequently vied for the information aboard the ship, with the Last Chance settlers becoming embroiled in the chaos.
Flora and fauna[]
Plant life on O'Bannon's World included the fishhook bush and "O'Bannon's Bane" vampire vines. The running flatfish, a type of poisonous arthropod, was also native to the moon, along with the prawn–like mudbug.
Climate and terrain[]
Though breathable for humans, the air on O'Bannon's World was hot and humid. Jungle covered much of the moon's surface, which also featured bodies of water in which spacecraft could become submerged.
Economy[]
As of 2184, corporate scientists were showing an interest in the magnetic technology being used at Last Chance.
