Novgorod Station, Interstellar Commerce Commission registration number 1709556, was a Seegson–owned space station. Orbiting the star Alpha Fornacis on the Frontier beyond Dyaus Sector, it was an interstellar outpost supporting long-distance freighters, survey ships, and local miners.[2] The station also served as a transit point between Anchorpoint Station and the Far Reach of the American Arm.[3]

Overview[]

Similar in construction to other Seegson–owned stations of like stripe, Novgorod Station served as a habitation, transit and port station in the Alpha Fornacis system. Novgorod's permanent resident population hovered between 140 and 150.[2]

The station was separated into ten decks, designated A to J, with a transit tube at the center consisting of two elevators, an emergency stairwell, and a restroom. Passengers were prohibited from leaving Deck C. The decks were laid out in the following order:[2]

Deck A (Engineering Platform)[]

  • Engineering Platform: The main point of access to the station's reactor and its fuel control stations, as well as the station's fuel tanks and coolant tanks.[4]
  • Reactor: The power source of the station, namely a 3.1 Gigawatt fusion power plant operating on a deuterium/tritium reaction.[4]
  • Coolant tanks: Located on either side of the reactor, the coolant tanks contained liquid potassium and kept the reactor from overloading.[4]
  • Fuel Tanks: These tanks stored the liquid nitrogen used by the station's shuttle, powerloaders, and forklifts. [4]

Deck B (Cargo Deck)[]

  • Airlock Access: An airlock leading outside the station and a preparation chamber with EVA suits and lockers.[4]
  • Cargo Bays: These three bays served as supply storage for the station. The supplies arrived via two lifts coming from Deck C's Cargo handling modules. [4]
  • St. Luke Medical Center: A small clinic with four beds, an operating room, store, pharmacy, and consulting room.[4]
  • Workshops: This area contained lathes, testing benches, several racks of spares, and various tools and equipment.[4]
  • Offices: Those two open space admin offices were located in the cargo bay and the workshop, with terminals linked to the APOLLO mainframe.[4]
  • Colonial Marshal's Office: The Station Marshal and his deputy were headquartered here. The office featured an interview and interrogation room and four holding cells.[4]

Deck C (Main Concourse)[]

  • Spaceport Transfer Gates: The primary ingress and egress point of the station, this area featured two gates with lounges and an open-space office.[4]
  • Cargo Handling Modules: These cargo airlocks were used to move freight to Deck B.[4]
  • Spaceport Lobby: The entrance of the concourse with check-in desks, seats, and an information point.[4]
  • Concourse: The heart of Novgorod, the Concourse was an open plaza with sitting areas and a video screen. It was surrounded by offices, stores, a gym, a restaurant, an inn, and restrooms.[4]
  • Security Station: Staffed by two security officers, the security station monitored the spaceport.
  • Gym: A small gym to keep the personnel in shape.[4]
  • Galleria Nishi: A galleria featuring a dozen or so essential or luxury stores for station personnel or transiting passengers.[4]
  • Promenade: Located behind the galleria, the promenade was a wide walkway lined with large windows looking into space.[5]
  • Restaurant: Located near the restrooms, this restaurant was called "Maxine's Diner".[5]
  • Marianna's Inn: Marianna's was a small inn for visitors or transiting passengers. It featured twenty en-suite rooms, a laundry room, an office, and a reception desk.[5]

Deck D (Life Support Deck)[]

  • Garden: A hydroponic garden used as a supplementary oxygen supply and water treatment facility.[5]
  • Water Tanks: The station's drinking water was stored here.[5]
  • Life Support Bay: Here, airscrubbers filtered carbon dioxide from the air, making it breathable. Sewage and used water were also recycled into drinkable water here.[5]

Deck E (Habitation Block)[]

  • Crew Cabins: Novgorod Station housed eighty-six cabins split up over two levels.[2] Each of the cabins was standard issue with a bed, toilets, shower, video-phone, desk, storage units, kitchenette, and access to the APOLLO network.[5]
  • Restaurant and Café: A bar and grill from the Drifter franchise, reserved for station staff dispatched on the two levels. A café was also located between the mini-market and the restrooms.[5]
  • Mini-Market: A small convenience store for personnel to buy food to be cooked in their cabins.[5]
  • Laundry: Station personnel cleaned their clothes or room linen here.[5]

Deck F (Lower Tower)[]

  • Airlock Access: An airlock leading outside the station and a preparation chamber with EVA suits and lockers.[4]
  • Shuttle Hangar: The hangar housed the station's Starcub-class shuttle, used to transfer additional visitors. The space was wide enough for the shuttle maintenance and cargo waiting to be loaded. [5][2]
  • Workshops: This area contained a small workshop near the shuttle hangar.[4]
  • Administrative Center: It was from here that the station was managed. It was linked to the Operation Center on the upper deck via spiral stairs.[2]
  • Fuel Processor: A fuel probe on the outside of the station pumped liquid hydrogen fuel from supply tankers to the processor, which refined it.[5]

Deck G (Upper Tower)[]

  • Operation Center: Run by a shift of six personnel from day-to-day, this was the station nerve center. It was laid out like the bridge of a starship with a stairwell to the administrative center and access to the station's mainframe .[5]
  • APOLLO Mainframe: The station's brain, where APOLLO servers were located alongside a direct access and programming terminal.[5]
  • Crew Cabins: Operation and Administration Center personnel were lodged here.[5]
  • Restaurant: Named Bistro Hibashi, this restaurant was reserved for Administrative and Operation Center personnel.[5]

Deck H (Science Module)[]

  • Offices: Two open-space offices located each side of the transit tunnel, giving access to nearby laboratories.[6]
  • Laboratories: Four fully-equipped multi-function laboratories, located on each side of both offices.[5]
  • Emergency Operation Center: A back-up Operation Center to be used if the main Operation Center were compromised or unable to perform its tasks. It was usually locked and disused.[5]

Deck I (Science Module)[]

  • Offices: These were similar to the offices on Deck H, but were much smaller.[6]
  • Laboratories: Similar to those on Deck H, these laboratories were much wider.[6]

Deck J (Communications Platform)[]

  • Airlock Access: An airlock leading to the station exterior, with a preparation chamber featuring EVA suits and lockers.[4]
  • Probe Bay: Science probes were launched from here.[5]
  • Avionics: Located at each side of the transit tunnel, sensor equipment and communications electronics were located here.[5]

History[]

Novgorod Station was built on May 11th, 2030[2] in the Sol System. It was at some point bought by Seegson and transported to the mineral–rich Alpha Fornacis System as a transit station and mining operation support. Dr Alicia Svenson, a Seegson scientist, upgraded Novgorod's mainframe from the antiquated TYPHON server to a cutting–edge APOLLO system.[7]

Behind the scenes[]

Novgorod Station shares its name with the city of Veliky Novgorod, commonly referred to as Novgorod, in western Russia. This naming convention is similar to Sevastopol Station, which is likewise named for a city in the Crimean Peninsula.
