The New York City Police Department (NYPD), established in 1845, is the largest municipal police force in the United States, with primary responsibilities in law enforcement and investigation within Borough (New York City)|the five boroughs of New York City. The NYPD was the first police agency established in the United States. It has its headquarters in New York City.
The NYPD has been heavily fictionalized in numerous novels such as Predator: Concrete Jungle, movies and television shows throughout its history.
