New Luhansk was a human colony on the Union of Progressive Peoples mining planet Shānmén.
History[]
Origins[]
The Union of Progressive Peoples (UPP) funded the establishment and continued existence of the town of New Luhansk. It started as a colony settlement that would provide food to the expanding population of the Weyland Isles Sector. That changed when they found Eitr under the rock. Colonists got pushed out in favor of merchants, shopkeepers, and anyone who thought they might make money off the mine. Most of the original pioneers shifted to the northern continent, where it was colder but more civilized. New Luhansk remained to deal with interstellar trade and provide landing space to haulers. The port became far more important than those first arrivals could have imagined.[1]
Description[]
New Luhansk is comprised of a motley collection of buildings spanning a broad range from the geodomes of the initial colony to the rough metallic shapes of UPP facilities, bought cheap from military surplus. Nothing matched, and everything rusted in the moistness of the equatorial forest.[1]
Attack on Shānmén[]
New Luhansk was the epicenter of a major attack on Shānmén, one of the infamous Border Bombings; an alien vessel appeared in the skies above the colony and unleashed a dangerous pathogen that mutated or killed everything in its path.[2]
Investigation[]
The Jackals, aboard the Righteous Fury, arrived at Shānmén to investigate the attack in an attempt to determine the who was behind the "Border Bombings" that had been happening on colony worlds. Upon entering orbit around the planet they detected the aline ship hovering over New Luhansk and destroyed it, then began search and rescue operations, deploying dropships to find and extract survivors.[3]
