"Huh! This is what what you were wantin' to team up with? A shot-up yankee, a foreigner an' a nigra?"
Nebediah making disparaging remarks to the Union soldiers (from Predator: Hell Come a Walkin')

Nebediah was a pro-Confederate militiaman during the American Civil War. After he and his comrades Jesse James and Standing Bear encountered a massacre in the Ozark mountains, he was forced to ally himself with Union troops in order to combat a far greater threat than each other - a Predator.

He was eventually killed by the hunter, being decapitated from behind after saving Union soldier Spartacus.

Biography[]

"And so the devil burnt the mountaineer's cabin to the ground and et him, his entire family and his mule -- hair, guts, n'all! And ever since then, folks keep clear of the woods on moon-less nights for fear of meetin' hell come a' walkin'!"
Nebediah to Jesse and Bear (from Predator: Hell Come a Walkin')

Nebediah, alongside the young Jesse James and grizzled Native-American Standing Bear, had split from Jesse's brother's unit to traverse across the Ozark mountains, all three possessing extensive knowledge of the region. There, they hoped to unite with a nearby unit of Confederates. Nebediah was an irritable racist, and he and the other two were constantly at each others' throats.

Following their arrival at their comrades' camps, they were met with a ghastly a scene - a brutal massacre. They thereafter encountered a small platoon of Union soldiers transporting a stationary cannon, after one of the soldiers saluted to his captain, Neb used the opportunity to shoot the captain in the head, killing him.

PHCWNebstory

Neb's story of the Devil entering a Mountaineer's home.

The three ultimately set up camp nearby the unit and discussed what could have killed their comrades. Standing Bear told of an encounter with a cannibal spirit that left its cave deep within the Ozarks and feasted on human flesh. Although Jesse was skeptical of the tale, Neb, for once, partially agreed with him and told his own story of how the Devil himself tricked a mountaineer to invite him into his solitary log-cabin, slaughtering and eating him, his family, their mule and burning the cabin to the ground. Hearing enough of their stories, Jesse departed from the two to check on the canon, only to notice a distant silhouette of a creature similar to what they described, causing him to return in distress and notify the others.

Neb, Jesse and Bear approached the Union troops, with Jesse tensely proposing a truce to them, after claiming to have seen "the devil hisself". Neb was immediately hostile to Spartacus, an African-American Union soldier. Suddenly, a hole was blown through Standing Bear's chest from behind from the shot a Plasmacaster, killing him. After the assailant retreated from the gunfire, the two sides subsequently joined forces to oppose their new threat. Despite this, Neb often targeted Spartacus, calling him slurs, ordering him around, and even held Spartacus at gunpoint when Spartacus stood up for himself. Neb only relented when Jesse fired a warning shot through the brim of Neb's hat and threatened to kill him.

Death[]

PHCWNebdeath

Neb is decapitated.

"Don't move -- or you're gonna find yourself in a world o' hurt!"
Nebediah to Spartacus (from Predator: Hell Come a Walkin')

Neb, Jesse and Spartacus explored the forestry, intent on flushing the creature out whilst the others readied the canon, intent on blowing the Predator apart. After splitting from Jesse, Neb suddenly held a gun to Spartacus, telling him not to move, before shooting a large bear right behind him, saving him. After jovially admiring his kill and taunting Spartacus about race again, he was suddenly decapitated from behind by the Predator as he mimicked "World o' hurt".

Personality and Traits[]

An eccentric and tetchy old Southerner, Neb was openly supercilious to all non-whites he encountered, and his brashness constantly got on the nerves of his comrades, especially James. He was also prone to alcoholism and happily drank during his service as a bushwhacker. As such, Neb was largely unpopular among his peers.

Though debased and incredibly bigoted, he did defend Standing Bear's theory to Jesse and ended up saving African-American soldier, Spartacus' life from a large bear, only to end up a victim of the Predator shortly after.
