The MiG–730 Series Aerospace Interceptor was a model of interceptor and the primary fightercraft of the Union of Progressive Peoples.

Overview[]

The MiG–730 Aerospace Interceptor was a snub–nosed fightercraft developed by the Union of Progressive Peoples. Based around a restrictive single–seat cockpit and oversized afterburners, and measuring 18.5 meters in length, the MIG–730 was less armored than its United Americas counterpart, the Alphatech Hardware EVAC-3 Aerospace Fighter but was faster, being able to reach a speed of Mach 18. The cockpit was not pressurized, and required the use of a spacesuit for maneuvers in vacuum. While it was capable of atmospheric entry, the MiG–730 was unable to leave orbit without the aid of a lifter. Built for ambush tactics, the MiG–730 was armed with twin 20mm Gatling Cannons and a battery of six UPP Amur Medium Air-To-Air Missiles. The most commonly encountered UPP fightercraft on the Frontier,[1] the MiG–730 carried a price tag of 2,630,000 United American dollars.[2]

History[]

In 2184, during a UPP mission on the moon O'Bannon's World, a lone MiG–730 was deployed from the VP-153D Kremlin Class Hunter-Destroyer SSV Võ Nguyên Giáp to serve as a link between the ship and a team of Space Operating Forces commandos on the moon led by Praporschik Maciej Komaszyło. The interceptor attacked a dropship launched from the UA warship USS Tamb'Itam as it attempted to land on the moon.[3]

Several MiG-730 interceptors formed part of a UPP fleet dispatched to LV-187 following a Xenomorph outbreak on the planet. They were carried there by the VP–153D destroyer Shayk and intercepted and harried the HMCSS Apsara, a private merchant vessel captained by Rohan Dagný.[4]

On Pandora, several MiGs were used by the UPP during space combat;[5] however, one interceptor broke formation and carried out strafing runs on the besieged local spaceport.[6]
