The Matriarch[1] is the female counterpart to the title of Clan Leader. While male Clan-Leaders lead the males of the clan in off-world matters, Matriarchs rule and resolve on-world matters. Counterpart doesn't neccesarily denote equal standing, as the Clan Leader only acts in substitute (or stead) to a Matriarch. This implies the Matriarch's power and authority supersedes that of a Clan Leader.
