The Mark 6 High Explosive Smart Bounce (HESB) Grenade was a type of high explosive bouncing fragmentation grenade manufactured by Armat Battlefield Systems and used with the M95 Grenade Launcher. Rather than a metal casing, the cartridge consisted of an elastic metamaterial exterior, which allowed it to bounce on hardened surfaces around corners and obstructions. The grenade's exterior became to a brittle solid in response to an electric pulse a millisecond before detonation; the explosion unleashed a cloud of lacerating fragments. However, if the grenade made contact with a "soft" surface such as human flesh or Xenomorph chitin, it would detonate instantly.[1]
