The Weyland-Yutani MK221 Tactical Shotgun was a self-loading semi-automatic shotgun. It was notably employed by Weyland-Yutani's mercenaries and United States Colonial Marine Corps during the late 22nd century.[1]

Overview[]

The MK221 was a semi-automatic shotgun made of heat resistant alloys, allowing the weapon to maintain structural integrity after sustained fire. Coming by default with an underbarrel grenade-launcher firing 15mm H34 Fragmentation Rounds or 21S Arc Rounds, it can by replaced with 12-gauge underslung AF13 Shotgun firing ID16 Incendiary Shell. The standard iron sight can be replaced by a S91 Dot Reflex Sight or completed by a L14 Laser Targeting System for more precision, a R2 Recoil Dampening Stock can be attached for more stability, the internal tube magazine can be switched with a C47 Box Magazine System to allow the operator to reload quickly and by installing a Motorized Cycling System the shotgun can pass from semi-automatic to full-automatic.[1]

Notable Users[]

The MK221 is the standard shotgun of Weyland-Yutani PMCs.[1]

In 2179, Rick Levy after freeing Hicks from captivity made use of a MK221 Tactical Shotgun against Weyland-Yutani PMCs onboard the Resolute and might lose it after being catpured on LV-426.[2]

Later on, during the conflict between the Colonial Marines of the USS Sephora and Weyland-Yutani PMCs, aboard the USS Sulaco and the Origin Facility on Acheron, Cpl. Christopher Winters can also make use of one during his journey.[1]

12-gauge Buckshot Shell: Filled with standard buckshot pellets, deadly at close range.[1]

Trivia[]

  • The MK221 is unlocked at Marine Level 5, after the NSG 23 Assault Rifle. There is no legendary weapon equivalent to this weapon as it is not a weapon used by the crew of the USS Sulaco in Aliens, nor does the weapon make an appearance in the film during that time. This weapon can be used earlier, should the Stasis Interrupted campaign be played first before the main campaign.
  • The MK221 Battle Rifle first appeared in Aliens: Colonial Marines and was one of the several new weapons created for the game. It was the first weapon that appears in the E3 2011 of the game, but it lacks any alternate fire modifications on it. Its reload animation is slightly different compared to the final game.
  • The MK221 is visually based on the Benelli M4 Super 90, besides it was still named that way in concept arts.
