The M51 Breaching Scattergun, initially known as the Model 1771 Cobra Max Tactical, was a tactical/riot shotgun manufactured by Armat Battlefield Systems and used by the Office of the Colonial Marshals and the United States Colonial Marine Corps during the late 22nd century.

The M51 Breaching Scattergun was initially designed by Armat Battlefield Systems for the Office of the Colonial Marshals as a breaching and crowd control weapon dubbed the "Model 1771 Cobra Max Tactical". The scattergun entered United States Colonial Marine Corps service under the designation M51 shortly after "Operation Babylon Oratory" in August 2185, a joint operation between the Colonial Marines and Colonial Marshals to eliminate a terrorist cell of the Church of Immaculate Incubation in the Cocytus Sector; here, the Marines observed the effectiveness of the shotgun after mainly using M37A2 Pump Shotguns. However, members of the USCM refused to refer to the M51 by its original designation, considering it "tryhard".[1]
Overview[]
The M51 fired 16-gauge armor-piercing shells and was designed to shred the locking mechanisms of airtight doors with two point-blank blasts, allowing the shotgun to fire two rounds successively and resulting in wide coverage. However, despite being easy to handle, the M59 possessed a minimal firing range. The M51 found favour with riot-control police forces, who used the weapon in conjunction with rubber slugs and piezoelectric shots to handle unruly crowds of protesters and strikers. Incendiary ammunition was also compatible with the M51.[1]

While the M51 was originally released in 2181 for Colonial Marshal service and the civilian market, it was later adopted by the Colonial Marines and the United Americas Orbit Guard, local and federal law enforcement agencies, and private military contractors.[1]

The M51 Breaching Scattergun appears in Aliens: Fireteam Elite as part of the Season 4 update and can be purchased from Staff Sergeant Han-jae Park for 9600 Requisition Points. It can be equipped by Gunner, Technician, Phalanx, Recon, and Lancer classes.
