- "Various versions of the M12 have been in service within the UACM for some time. The current iteration is designed for smaller scale combat, creating powerful but contained explosions that are less likely to send an entire squad out into the vacuum."
- ―M12 RPG Launcher description (from Aliens: Fireteam Elite)
The Armat Battlefield Systems M12 RPG Launcher was an anti-vehicle rocket launcher that saw service with the United States Colonial Marine Corps and the Canadian Colonial Armed Forces during the late 22nd century.[1]
Development[]
Designed for light anti-vehicle and strongpoint penetration, field experience led Armat to develop a new approach with the M12. Instead of being shoulder-mounted like a classical rocket-launcher, the M12 was mounted on an arm like the M56 Smartgun.[1]
Overview[]
The weapon fired unguided HEAT micro-rockets in compact ammunition storage, which suppressed the back-blast and allowed the M51 to be fired without endangering allies. Its arm-mounting also reduced its recoil; however, due to its small explosion radius, the M51 was less effective against infantry.[1]
Notable users[]
Originally released in 2180 for the Canadian Colonial Armed Forces, the M12 was not accepted for Colonial Marines trials until 2191, after positive battlefied experiences made the Corps change their mind and propelled them to replace all of their aging M5 RPGs and M6B Rocket Launchers. The weapon was also used by the United Americas' national services and special forces.[1]
Variants[]
