The L59 Minigun was a minigun manufactured by the Weyland-Yutani Corporation and used by the Three World Empire and the United States Colonial Marine Corps during the 22nd century.
Development[]
Due to confirmed Xenomorph outbreaks spreading from the Frontier and into the Outer Rim Territories, the Three World Empire circulated a Request for Proposals to provide the Royal Marines Commandos with a human–portable weapon capable of a sustained and high rate of fire. As smart weapons were dismissed as "low–skill" by many elite units, the 3WE chose the Weyland-Yutani Corporation's L59 Minigun. Adapted from the Eurolift EL781 Pallas' door-mounted support cannons, the L59 was mounted on an arm like that of the M56 Smartgun.[1]
Overview[]
The L59 Minigun boasted an extremely high rate of fire, being capable of peppering an area with bullets. However, alongside minor issues such as its voracious ammo consumption and a protracted spin–up time for its barrel, the L59's biggest problem was that, even with a power–assist harness, it was difficult to train on a single target, and reduced the user's mobility. Even so, the punch the L59 Minigun packed more or less compensated for its drawbacks. Thus, it was best employed as a defensive emplacement weapon, preferably close to an ammunition supply, and in a position from which its user could drench the field of fire with hot lead.[1]
Notable users[]
Originally released in 2193 for the Three World Empire's Royal Marines Commandos, and later for their national services and the United States Colonial Marine Corps, the L59 was also adopted by well–heeled private military contractors. Furthermore, Weyland–Yutani armed their Synth Heavies with the L59.[1]

The L59 Minigun appears in Aliens: Fireteam Elite and can be acquired from Staff Sergeant Han-jae Park for 9600 Requisition Points. It can be equipped by Demolisher and Lancer classes.[1]
