"Where, man? I don't see shit." |
Kumi Morrow[1] was a human cyborg who served as chief security officer aboard the Weyland-Yutani Corporation C-Class deep space exploration vessel USCSS Maginot. Morrow was aboard the vessel when it crashed on Earth in 2120[2], and took defensive action to protect Weyland-Yutani's proprietary alien specimens from being seized by the rival Prodigy Corporation.
Biography[]
Morrow was born some time before 2055, the year the USCSS Maginot first set off on its 65 year long deep space exploratory mission. He was of Ghanaian descent. As a young homeless man, he was taken in by the then CEO of the Weyland-Yutani Corporation, who replaced his palsied arm with a cybernetic implant, as well as other several other cybernetic augmentations, and granted him steady employment in the company's security division.
He had a daughter named Estelle, who died in an apparent house fire at age nineteen on April 12th, which Morrow was informed of eight years into his trip. She wrote letters for him, expressing a disinterest in going to a Weyland-Yutani college, instead dreaming of Harvard. It is unknown if Morrow supported that vision.
As chief security officer of the Maginot mission and with his history with the head of the company, he was granted code word security clearance to speak directly with her. In 2120, with the Maginot being four months away from Earth, Morrow had a tense discussion with chief engineer Shmuel when the latter joked about jettisoning the several alien samples (including facehuggers). As security officer, he threatened to confine Schmuel to his quarters and reminded the rest of the crew that the specimens are the mission. On the Maginot's final approach to Earth, a malfunction compromises its navigation system and places it on a crash course with the planet. A grown Xenomorph is shown to have killed most of the crew, with Morrow locking himself in Mother System control room and refuses to allow fellow crew member Zoya Zaveri access. He notifies the Weyland-Yutani Corporation of the collision course and that specimens are loose and the crew is dead, before taking refuge in the embedded impact room to avoid also being attacked. The ship clips an orbital space yard and then proceeds to crash land into a tower complex in the middle of Prodigy City, a metropolis administered by the Prodigy Corporation in New Siam.
Having survived the crash, Morrow exits the impact room and examines the damage. On realising the ship has been boarded by Prodigy Corporation security services, he sends a further update to Weyland-Yutani via the MU/TH/UR onboard computer that immediate extraction is required. Morrow confirms several specimens remain contained, but that others have escaped and need to be tracked down and protected from capture by the rival company. Arming himself, he intercepts two Prodigy soldiers Hoyt and Anant, disarming and handcuffing them to a pole in the laboratory where they are later killed by a leech like specimen.
When the escaped Xenomorph kills Bergerfeld and attacks Joseph Hermit after massacring a party of tower residents, Morrow incapacitates them both with a taser like device, and attempts to drag the alien back to the Maginot. He is intercepted by a team led Cortez and Brahma, who are killed by the Xenomorph when it regains consciousness. Morrow is spared when he tries not to show fear around the creature, and also when further Prodigy Corp security services soldiers arrive on scene and distract the Xenomorph.
Personality and traits[]
Morrow's official biography states:
"An employee of the Weyland-Yutani Corporation and the Maginot’s Chief Security Officer. He is a stone cold, tough bastard. After losing his daughter, working for the company is his life’s mission. He is the sole survivor of the ship’s crash and tasked with retrieving the ship’s cargo on Earth, by any means necessary."[3]
Morrow was a dedicated, competent, and driven Chief Security Officer of Weyland-Yutani Corporation whose loyalty toward Yutani family being out of gratitude for helping him when he was young. He would do anything to complete task at hand, even if it means manipulating and sacrificing others. He was also insightful, able to tell that Slightly was immature enough to be easily blackmailed, even though he didn't know about the latter's true nature as a Hybrid until later on.
However, he's not as heartless as several high-ranking officials in Weyland-Yutani and other megacorporations. Throughout the crisis onboard of the doomed USCSS Maginot, Morrow was torn between ensuring the survival of his crewmates and the success of their mission at the same time in his effort to undo Petrovich's sabotage, which made difficult by both his peers' questionable competence and schism toward each other. Although he was ultimately forced to sacrifice Zaveri in the end, it pained him greatly in doing so. Morrow's interaction with Slightly showed that he had no enjoyment in manipulating the Hybrid against his friends, especially after learning his and the rest of Lost Boys' true nature; it's quite possible that, had circumstances were different, the two would be actual friends. If anything, he's more morally sound than his superiors despite proved just as ruthless as them.
Equipment[]
Morrow's left arm has been replaced with a translucent cybernetic version, which can split at the fingers and deploy tools such as a heat torch/welding device and a blade. It also grants that limb significant additional strength, allowing him to drag an unconscious xenomorph with one arm. It could also deploy covert discs used for tracking and communication, which could absorb without trace into both human and Hybrid skin. The cybernetic arm is linked directly to the base of his brain to ensure constant communication[4].
He also has additional cybernetic implants within his skull, which allows him to download and store data from the Maginot's onboard computer utilising the same access cables used by Synthetics.
When defending the crashed USCSS Maginot, Morrow arms himself with a sidearm resembling a modified Glock 17, and a multi use KSG-AL shotgun.
