Kawakami Kenji was a shinobi active in Japan in 1629.
Biography[]
Shinobi vs. Predator vs. Samurai[]
By 1609 in Japan, Kenji and his brother Kiyoshi—the sons of a samurai warlord—are commanded to duel to decide who will succeed their father. Kenji refuses to fight, but Kiyoshi attacks and defeats him, forcing Kenji to flee. Two decades later, Kiyoshi rules the region, while Kenji has spent the years in exile as a shinobi. When Kenji returns to face his brother, he is unaware that a Yautja is stalking him. He infiltrates Kiyoshi’s castle and defeats him in a sword duel, sending Kiyoshi into the castle’s moat. Soon after, the Yautja ambushes Kenji, who manages to escape and save the wounded Kiyoshi. The brothers unite to slay the Yautja, though Kiyoshi ultimately succumbs to his injuries.
Later, the ninja is captured by other members of the attacker's species and placed in a hypersleep chamber.
The Arena[]
Many centuries later, Kenji awakens imprisoned in a cell alongside a Viking named Ursa and World War II pilot John J. Torres, unable to communicate with them due to the language barrier.
The trio is brought to a gladiatorial arena, where a Yautja leader—whom they call the “Grendel King”—announces that they must battle each other to the death, with the victor earning the right to face him. Supplied with a katana, he and Torres are suddenly attacked by a furious Ursa. As Torres tries to calm them, a massive beast is unleashed into the arena and swallows him whole. Kenji and Ursa then join forces to slay the creature.
Unknown to them, Torres survives inside the beast. He retrieves a Wrist Gauntlet from a devoured guard, uses it to cut himself free, disables the explosive collars, and steals a hoverbike to reach the Grendel King’s ship.
Meanwhile, Kenji and Ursa engage the Yautja in combat. Torres fires up the ship’s engines, blasting the King away, allowing the two warriors to leap aboard. As they make their escape, a harpoon strikes the ship, severing Kenji’s right arm. In a final act of sacrifice, Ursa slides down the cable and destroys the harpoon, ensuring their escape.
Personality and Traits[]
Kenji, once an optimistic and kindhearted youth who shared a close bond with his twin brother Kiyoshi, became cold and morally ambiguous after Kiyoshi’s betrayal for power. Though he grew wiser and more reserved, he showed no hesitation to kill. Despite this, Kenji’s lingering affection for his brother surfaced when he chose to scar rather than kill him and comforted Kiyoshi in his final moments, seeking reconciliation.
