The Karna are an alien species that make an appearance in Forever Midnight.

Biology[]
They are described as reptilians-- Ness refers to them as "lizard men". They were described as having alligator-like skin, snake-like eyes, a single verticle notch for a nose but being surpassingly man-like despite this. Males have long, Semi-mobile, longitudinal crests that change color with the lizard's emotional state. They are described as being "linguistically jubilant" and produce sound from a sonorous sack on the throat in order to speak. Karna have claws, sharp enough to cut through tough resin and simple binds.
Karna are able to learn languages by peering into the minds of other sapient creatures. In accord with their reptilian look, they lay eggs and apparently feed on the large grubs native to Midnight.
On Midnight[]
The Karna are introduced midway through Forever Midnight. Ness meets one, which he calls Rattle, captured by the Hish along with him in order to be hunting for game. According to their conversations, the Karna have a less-than-peaceful relationship with Humans but a worse one with the Hish.
The Karna were another race the Yautja had enslaved some members of, for their food-finding ability.[1]
