"I just wanted to say hey before I jet out. I'm feeling kind of queasy."
"Oh, you're not feeling good?"
"I'm just burning up."
Branson and Tennessee (from The Last Supper)

Jacob "Jake" Branson[1] was the captain of the colonization spacecraft USCSS Covenant. He was the husband of Katherine "Danny" Daniels. He was in command for the Covenant's disastrous voyage to Origae-6, during which it suffered several catastrophes that resulted in the loss of most of the ship's crew and its hijacking by David.

Branson was killed when the Covenant was damaged by a stellar ignition shock wave; his hypersleep pod malfunctioned and he was trapped inside and incinerated.

Biography

On the Covenant

Branson spoke with his second mate Oram and the ship's pilot Tennessee about the beauty of space. Branson was the first to go into cryosleep, citing the cause as a fever.

While the Covenant made its journey, a neutrino storm damaged the ship and sealed Branson's pod shut. As Ankor and Cole tried to release Branson from his pod, the pod malfunctioned and flooded with smoke before catching fire, incinerating Branson alive. His burnt corpse would later be jettisoned into space as a funeral.

Trivia

  • In early drafts of the film's script, Branson was known as Adam Jacobson.[3]
