- "The Combine is a company, a pretty big deal. Makes everything you can think of."
- ―Lenny Pope to Mae Hendricks (from Alien: Seventh Circle)
The Jùtóu Combine, alternately dubbed the Combine, was a Chinese conglomerate. Initially a rival to the Yutani Corporation in their acquisition of Weyland Corp, the Combine later became a major commercial arm of the Union of Progressive Peoples.
History[]
As of 2104, by which point it was a major Chinese conglomerate, the Jùtóu Combine was run by a triad consisting of executives Chen Chao, Lin Niu, and Zhang Qiangda. After the failure of the Prometheus expedition and the resultant ruination of Weyland Corp, the Jùtóu Combine sought to acquire its assets; however, they were ultimately outbid by the Yutani Corporation. During the radical Earthsavers' attempts to halt the departure of the Weyland-Yutani Corporation colony ship USCSS Covenant, several Weyland–Yutani executives initially suspected the Jùtóu Combine of being responsible for several acts of sabotage.[1]
As of 2186 the Jùtóu Combine was part of the Union of Progressive Peoples,[3] a socialist bloc formed by China and Russia in 2108,[4] and offered a wide variety of products.[2] The Combine also controlled an area of space in the Weyland Isles Sector on the Frontier; worlds situated therein included Heaven's Cradle, a terraforming colony, and the mining planet Shānmén. The Svarog Mine, at which the valuable mineral Eitr was excavated, was located on the latter world,[3] and represented the biggest such operation in known space.[5] Workers at the mine were indentured to the Jùtóu Combine through the Combine point system.[3] The Extraktors, a team of cybernetically–enhanced humans tasked with hacking rogue synthetics, was a division of the Combine around that time.[2] In 2187, the family of military official General Edgar B. Fordham held positions on the Jùtóu Combine's board of directors.[5]
