Flag of Italy.

Italy, officially the Italian Republic, is a country in southern Europe. It shares land borders with France, Switzerland, Austria and Slovenia to the north, and wholly surrounds the states of San Marino and Vatican City, and extends into the heart of the Mediterranean Sea. Due to its shape, it is often referred to in Italy as lo Stivale (the Boot). The capital and most populous city is Rome, located in the center of the country.
