- "I don't always like what I find, but I always find it!"
- ―Hudson (from Hudson's Aliens Bio-Data)
Hudson was a member of the Space Marines, part of a special Xenomorph emergency response unit. He was a highly skilled tracker who never failed to find his target. He also possessed a strong survival instinct.[1]
Biography[]
Early Life[]
Hudson was born on Tanaka 5[1], he later joined the Space Marines.
Equipment[]
Hudson carried a light machine gun as his primary weapon. He also carried around a torpedo-launching backpack rig. Much like Apone, Hudson also possessed a Bio-Arm cybernetic rig on his right arm, the reason he requires one is unknown.
Behind the Scenes[]
Hudson is based on William Hudson from the film Aliens. Hudson appeared alongside his fellow Space Marines in Kenner's Aliens toyline; as Bill Paxton did not agree to have his likeness used, the character received a fresh design. An animated commercial featuring the Space Marines was produced but ultimately was not aired. This toyline originally bore the Operation: Aliens moniker on the packaging but was rebranded as simply Aliens shortly after release. The figures came packaged with the alternate-universe Aliens: Space Marines comics, which fleshed out the characters as different people from the classic characters of the main Alien franchise.
A year later, the Operation: Aliens Combat Game board game was released which provided some back story for the Marines, further cementing them as wholly distinct from the classic characters. NECA would later redesign several of the Kenner figures and release them as part of their own Aliens toyline, each of which included a reprint of the original accompanying comic.
Trivia[]
- While the movie Hudson was a boastful combat technician who quickly crumbled under real pressure, this version of Hudson is described as having a strong survival instinct and being highly skilled at his job as a tracker and did not show much fear in hunting down Xenomorphs.
- Hudson's Bio-Data interestingly states that he was born on Tanaka 5, which is the first planet visited by the Space Marines in the mini-comics. In the mini-comics, the planet is overrun by Scorpion Aliens and shows no sign of human life. Though as we only see a small part of the planet, it is entirely possible that a human colony exists on another part of the planet.
- Hudson's "backpack torpedo launcher" is a misnomer, as torpedoes are strictly aquatic missiles
- Much like the other series 3 Marines, Vasquez & O'Malley, Hudson is not given a rank on his packaging or Bio-Data collectible card.
- Hudson's hair is black and not brown like his movie counterpart.
- Hudson's figure is a redeco of the Apone figure with a new head mold and accessories.
- As Hudson was released in the later series of figures, he did not appear in any of the mini-comics or merchandise.
- Hudson received a redeco in a more uniform black and dark green outfit with the purplish Bio-Arm in silver, for the Alien vs. Marine line of two-packs.
