Hook to Maria and Tyler (from Alien vs. Predator: Thicker Than Blood)

Hook[2] was a disgraced Yautja Elder who, alongside his two sons, Splitter and Pig Iron, boarded the luxury ship USSC Double Down after it had trespassed in an unknown sector of space, and began a slaughter of its inhabitants.

Hook had his left arm and leg amputated after chasing child-civilians Maria and Tyler into an elevator. He would later ally himself temporarily with the two to combat a loose Xenomorph inadvertently released by Pig Iron.

Biography[]

Terrorizing the Double Down and bisection[]

"...I was greedy, I wanted the cartography data. We invaded their territory and they attacked us. They're going to kill us all."

Hook was a disgraced Yautja elder, who at some point was presumably banished from a Predator clan for unknown reasons.[3]

In an unknown sector of space, Hook took his two sons, Splitter and Pig Iron, to a nearby planet to conduct a hunting ritual using a single Xenomorph they had captured, presumably for the purpose of blooding. However, upon noticing the USSC Double Down entering their territory, the Mother Ship boarded the luxury ship and Hook and Splitter began mercilessly slaughtering its passengers, with Pig Iron staying behind.

Hook started stalking Captain of the ship, Lydia and her husband, after her children Maria and Tyler meet up with their parents in the forward-lounge, Hook suddenly emerged and killed their father. Lydia, shocking the creature with a stun-baton, bought the children enough time for them to enter the elevator and escape before being killed. The Predator suddenly jammed its arm and leg into the elevator door and attempts to pry it open, but after the siblings work together, they bisected the creatures' limbs by closing the door, before escaping further into the confines of the ship.

Hook's mangled body was lodged into the elevator, and he was left hanging there until he is found by his son, Splitter. Splitter released him and used his plasma-whip to amputate and seal his father's mangled limbs, leaving him without a left arm and leg.

Due to Pig Iron's negligence, the captive Xenomorph had managed to kill him and escape the Mother Ship, subsequently wrecking havoc within the Double Down. Eventually, it made its way to the forward lounge, and Tyler and Maria entered the room to witness Splitter defend his unconscious father from the Xenomorph. However, after a brief battle, the Xenomorph eventually overwhelmed Splitter and decapitated him. Intending to use Hook's hand to access the Mother Ship's control panel, the kids dragged his unconscious body during the battle into the elevator, with Hook fading in and out of consciousness.

Alliance with the siblings and battling the Xenomorph[]

"Listen to me, I don't like this any more than you do. You murdered my parents. I'd rather let that other creature rip you apart. But we're all in a bad situation here. If we're going to survive it, we need each other. Do you understand me?"

Hook offers a temporary truce to the siblings.

The siblings took the amputated hunter to the lido-deck and try to wake him up using shock-prods and the artificial ocean water. Maria attempted to reason with the groggy Predator, but was only met with hostility. Giving up, Maria intended to drown the wounded Elder and cut off his arm. The two go to a bar to find a knife, before reconciling Maria's past grievances with Tyler. Suddenly, Hook emerged from behind using a shock-prod as leverage and offered them a truce to kill the Xenomorph running amok within the ship; if the children help hook kill the creature, he will depart and allow the two access to the escape shuttle Tender.

The three travelled to the med-center, and Maria managed to attach a prosthetic leg to the Elder. They subsequently went to the geo-lab to find explosives, only to notice the Xenomorph lurking in the area. Tyler alone attempted to locate the bombs and the trigger, but the creature notices the others and attacks them. Tyler distracted the creature with a harpoon gun and sacrificed himself to buy Hook time to escape with the protesting Maria. However, after ripping Tyler to shreds, the Alien promptly caught up with them and attacked the Predator. A brutal battle ensued, and Hook managed to hold his own despite his loss of limbs, but was soon overwhelmed. Maria eventually supported Hook using Pig Iron's wrist-flamethrower. She threw the Elder Splitter's whip, and he finally managed to kill the creature with it by splitting its head in two. Maria, exhausted from the chaos, passed out.

Departure[]

"...You're true to your word. Not what I expected."

Hook 'calls it good' with Maria and leaves for his ship.

Hook ultimately held his end of the bargain and carried Maria to the entrance to the Tender. He also retrieved Tyler's mangled corpse from the geo-lab and gave him to Maria. After being thanked by Maria, Hook 'calls it good' and boarded his ship, recalling the boarding ramp. The subsequent decompression almost blew the two children into space, but Maria managed to safely board the Tender with Tyler whilst Hook's ship departed from the Double Down.

Personality and Traits[]

Hook was a merciless Elder who had lost his way following unknown circumstances. His slaughtering of trespassing humans was supposedly a justified act, though no less brutal considering the total lack of a threat they had posed. However, it should be noted that Hook was only seen killing senior members of the ship and not civilians, unlike his more troubled son Splitter, possibly unbeknownst to him.

It was not until the loss of his arm and leg, as well as his two sons, did he ultimately decide to redeem what little honor he still had, and he went on to assist Maria and Tyler in killing the Xenomorph he had captured. He also ended up saving Maria, and retrieved a destroyed Tyler for her to repair as thanks for her assistance, though with his debt repaid, he promptly left within his ship, the two's safety no longer his concern.

Behind the Scenes[]

Hook's name is never referred to within the series, but is instead revealed in an interview with writer Jeremy Barlow.[4] In it, he revealed that Hook and his two sons were a family of "screw-ups", (albeit not Bad Bloods), with Splitter and Pig Iron specifically being referred to as problem children. Jeremy intended to characterize Hook as an exiled and dishonored Elder Predator, who regained his honor through his helping of Maria and Tyler.[5]

Trivia[]

  • Despite being a disgraced Yautja, Jeremy Barlow specified that he was not a Bad Blood, making his position within the hierarchy murky. It could be theorized that he accepted banishment to avoid the moniker, similar to that of Scarface. His status as an Elder could have also been influential.
