"We must be near the nest."
Ripley 8 (from Alien Resurrection)

A Hive was established aboard the United Systems Military medical research vessel USM Auriga by the Cloned Queen, a genetically aberrant Xenomorph Queen,[1] in 2381.[2]

Overview[]

Centered around Waste Tank Five[3] and extending across sublevels six through nine on the ship,[4] the Hive was built following the escape of the Queen and her workers from captivity. Several crew members,[1] including science personnel and USM soldiers, were detained by the Xenomorphs and secured in the Hive; at least one such individual, USM researcher Jonathan Gediman, was implanted with a chestburster.[4]

Ripley 8, a clone of Ellen Ripley from whose body the Queen had been extracted, was captured by the Xenomorphs while attempting to escape the Auriga and taken to the Hive. While there, she witnessed the birth of the Newborn, a new variant of Xenomorph produced by the Queen after DNA absorbed from Ripley had equipped her with a womb. After seeing the Newborn kill both its birth mother and Gediman and recognize her as its true parent, Ripley scaled the Xenomorph webbing on the wall of Waste Tank Five[1] and escaped to the upper decks of the Auriga by way of a hatch in the ceiling.[4] The Hive was destroyed along with the rest of the Auriga as the ship crashed into Earth shortly after.[1] The circumstances surrounding the Newborn's birth in the Hive were uncovered by the Weyland-Yutani Corporation after its operatives extracted information from the wreckage of the AI aboard the Auriga following the incident.[2]
