- "I am utterly beneath her notice. In all the universe, she's a Queen among lepers. A Goddess among maggots. And yet, I know she has noticed me. She's looking for me. And even though she's the nearest thing to true evil that exists...The thing that will someday reduce all life to gore and ash...I know that some part of me wants to be found."
- ―Gabriel Cruz regarding the 'Goddess' (from Alien: Bloodlines)
The "Goddess" as referred to by Gabriel Cruz, also called the "one (or "woman") in the dark", was a biomechanical female entity that appeared in Cruz, and several others' nightmares whilst subdued by a Facehugger.
Characteristics and Traits[]
An enigmatic figure, the one in the dark was a biomechanical creature with vaguely feminine traits; she possessed a slender frame with elongated fingers. She also possessed curved horns that curled around her head.
She appeared in the recurring nightmares of those who were subdued by Facehuggers, with all of them citing that she was "looking" for them. Iris Humphries stated that she represented the "inevitable end result" of humanity's encounter with the Xenomorph species, and that they will eventually attempt to "join" with the "fire" that they had discovered, before being completely wiped out. It is unknown if the woman was actually a physical entity, or merely a figment of her victim's psyches.
Biography[]
Epsilon Incident[]
- "I saw her, Gabe. She's looking for you."
"Who is, Mitch. Trudy? Why would she --"
"No Gabe, not Trudy. The one in the dark." - ―Mitch and Gabriel Cruz (from Alien: Bloodlines)
The 'one in the dark' appeared in the collective visions of several individuals.
Following a botched operation that saw Gabriel Cruz's squad slaughtered at the hands of the Xenomorph species and Cruz himself cocooned, Cruz would hallucinate images of otherworldly Xenomorph creatures, alongside a female entity. After Cruz was rescued and taken to Epsilon, where his chestburster was extracted, Cruz would go on to have disturbing nightmares of the woman, citing that she was seeking him. He would attend counselling headed by a Bishop synthetic to discuss this. Bishop went on to emphasize the importance of the figure in his nightmares, and that with continued counselling, the two will be able to decipher the meaning behind his dreams.
Following a Xenomorph infestation on the Weyland-Yutani Corporation–owned research station Epsilon, Cruz was assigned, alongside two Defence Agents, to go back to the station and retrieve the 'Alpha Embryo', also hoping to find his son, Danny too. Upon encountering traumatized survivor, Mitch, he would ominously reveal that he saw the one in the dark, and that she was looking for him, before a Chestburster erupted from inside of him.
Events would entail Cruz, the Epsilon Bishop, a Facehugged Danny, and Minute Hand Movement member Iris Humphries as the sole survivors of the incident, escaping the station within an exec life raft. Iris was revealed to be a Synthetic Sleeper Agent who intended to use Danny's Chestburster against the Company and create a "post-organic utopia". Before being deactivated, she revealed to Cruz that she knew about the woman in his dreams, that once a species grew arrogant, they would discover Prometheus' fire to wipe them out and start a fresh slate in the galaxy - she was the end result of humanity discovering the Xenomorph species.
After sacrificing himself, Cruz believed he would see the woman one final time, though in his solace he instead saw a family photo of his wife and two sons Lucas and Danny.
With the help from a Bishop-model android, Danny's Chestburster was surgically removed, though he began recalling visions of the "deepest dark" he had seen, and that something within the darkness was looking for him.
