The flechette was an experimental type of ammunition manufactured by Armat Battlefield Systems. It was employed by the Colonial Marines Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance Service as of the early 23rd century.

The flechette was created by Armat Battlefield Systems in response to the Colonial Marines Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance Service's request for their "flechette" weapon line, which featured the X43 Barrage Flechette SMG, X45 Bombard, and X46 Ballista Flechette. The ammunition consisted of a small and slim kinetic "dart" made of non-magnetic, thermally-inert metamaterials, and was strong enough to penetrate armor. The flechette's thin profile allowed greater effective firing range in dense atmosphere and through medium liquids.[1]
