"I'll take Maryland and Bateman to sweep the operations platform."
Joseph Henry (from Aliens: Colonial Marines)

Private Bateman was a member of the United States Colonial Marine Corps. He was part of the undisciplined and insubordinate crew of the USS Melville, reputed as the "worst", who were sent to convoy toxic waste to Alphatech's Waste Disposal Facility "SunGun".

Upon investigating the facility, he was killed due to friendly fire after a Marine opened fire indiscriminately when a Xenomorph pulled him into a ventilation shaft, inadvertently gunning Batemen down.

Biography[]

Bateman was part of the highly undisciplined crew of the USS Melville, whom Lieutenant Joseph Henry was recently assigned to. Their mission was to convoy toxic waste to Alphatech's Waste Disposal Facility SunGun and to transport personnel from Alphatech to a deep space communication array for a year.

Mission in SunGun[]

When arriving in the SunGun vicinity, Henry tried to contact the facility but received no response. Fearing a problem, Henry had Sergeant Nyland wake the Marines up from hypersleep. However, as his men were disinclined and refused to gear up, Henry was forced to physically discipline them. Once back in line, they boarded the SunGun and explored the interior, eventually discovering that they were dealing with a Xenomorph infestation. Henry split from the group with Maryland and Bateman to sweep the operation platform, eventually encountering sole-survivor Dinkel.

Death[]

Suddenly, a horde of Xenomorphs attacked the other crew, after Maryland was contacted on the situation, a Xenomorph suddenly grabbed a Marine from behind and dragged him into the vents, causing him to fire his assault rifle indiscriminately in a panic. Bateman was caught in the crossfire, killing him.

Equipment[]

Beyond his military fatigues, during the exploration of the SunGun facility, he donned a comm headset and an EVA suit. He was armed with an unidentified assault rifle equipped with an over-and-under grenade launcher.

Personality and Traits[]

Nothing is really known about Bateman except that, like his teammates, he was undisciplined and had problems with authority figures.

Trivia[]

  • The Marine who kills Bateman is seemingly a goof, as Henry had only split up with Bateman and Maryland; as such, he was originally not present in any comic panels, nor was he named.
  • Bateman is one of three Marines in the Alien franchise to be killed by friendly fire, the others being Ricco Frost from Aliens and Lee from Predator: Life and Death.
