Eric Red (born Eric Joseph Durdaller; February 16, 1961) is an American screenwriter and director who wrote an unused script for Alien3 in 1989. Red was the second of ten different writers to work on the Alien3 project.
Red is best-known for writing the screenplays for the road action horror film The Hitcher (1986) and — more notably — the cult classic western horror film Near Dark (1987). Notable films he has directed include Cohen and Tate (1989) and Body Parts (1991).
For the latter two aforementioned films, Red has been nominated for two Saturn awards (Best Film for Cohen and Tate and Best Director for Body Parts respectively).
