Eitr was a valuable substance and a vital component in manufacturing FTL drives.

Background[]

Eitr was mined on numerous planets, though one of the largest such operations was located on the Union of Progressive Peoples planet Shānmén. One major source of Eitr on Shānmén was the Svarog Mine, which was owned by the Jùtóu Combine.[1]

Charateristics[]

Pure Eitr was silver in color and needed to be heated to millions of degrees before it became a liquid. Raw Eitr interfered with radio signals and the operation of some electronic devices.[2]

Mining Eitr[]

Eitr ran in seams that yielded the same risk of whitedamp as the coal mines of Earth. When extracted, Eitr produced rust-red residue and a potent chemical stench. The mineral was toxic, contaminating the water and anything grown in the soil it touched. Humans extracting the material would be slowly poisoned.[3] Eitr contamination resulted in streams and pond waters turning rust-brown and bright yellow colors.[4]

Mining Eitr on Shānmén[]

All Eitr on the planet Shānmén was rendered inaccessible following a pathogenic attack on Shānmén by a mysterious alien ship.[5] Following the incident, UPP General Kasey Ristic bemoaned the loss of the resource.[6]

Appearances[]

Behind the scenes[]

Eitr shares its name with a term for atter, or poison, in Old Norse.[7]
