The EVI–87 Zvezda Plasma Rifle, alternately dubbed the EVI–87, was a self–contained plasma rifle created for and primarily employed by the armed forces of the Union of Progressive Peoples. After it was eventually released through outside channels, the EVI–87 also saw limited service with the United Americas and the Three World Empire.
Development[]
The culmination of the project surrounding its predecessor, the prototype Ilyasov EVI-86X Zvezda Plasma Rifle, the EVI–87 Zvezda Plasma Rifle was designed on the Hyperdyne Corporation's orbital development platform Seneca by a scientific team under Kazimir Ilyasov. Its creation was heavily propagandized by the Union of Progressive Peoples, with emphasis on the lack of progress made in the same field by the United Americas and Three World Empire. The UPP maintained that the EVI–87's success was due to the removal of corporate interference from the design process. The rifle was subsequently featured in UPP military dramas throughout the 2190s and glorified as a "hero weapon" of the bloc. In 2201, after a decade of withholding the EVI–87 from outside distribution channels, the UPP declared the rifle suitable for export. Such a move led to rumors that the UPP was planning to reveal an even more august weapon at the 2202 Victory Day parades in Berlin, Madrid, and Moscow.[1]
Overview[]
The EVI–87 Zvezda Plasma Rifle fired superheated, electrically–charged steam. While the weapon was a technological marvel with a high fire rate, pinpoint accuracy and minimal recoil, it also possessed various drawbacks such as weak firepower, nearly nonexistent stopping power, and weak range due to the plasmoids it fired disintegrating at two hundred meters. Furthermore, the rifle was inefficient in vacuum as its plasma charges could not retain cohesion in that environment.[1]
Notable users[]
Originally publicly released in 2187 exclusively for the UPP's Ministry of Space Security,[1] the EVI–87 saw use on the UPP mining planet Shānmén during the previous year.[2] The weapon later spread to other UPP army branches such as the Space Operating Forces. Following the wider release of the EVI–87 in 2201, the armed forces of the United Americas and Three World Empire acquired the rifle and subjected it to field evaluations.[1]

The EVI–87 Zvezda Plasma Rifle appears in Aliens: Fireteam Elite as part of the Season 2 update and can be purchased from Staff Sergeant Han-jae Park for 9600 Requisition Points. It can be equipped by Gunner, Demolisher, Doc and Recon classes.
