The EM41 Pulse Rifle was a pulse–action bullpup assault rifle chambered for caseless hypervelocity projectiles and manufactured by the Weyland-Yutani Corporation. The crew of the United States Colonial Marine Corps vessel USS Solomon carried EM41s during a search and rescue mission on LV-178.

Overview[]

Lighter and more streamlined and compact than the M41 series of Pulse Rifles, weighing only 4.5 kg when fully loaded and measuring at 64.77 cm in length. The EM41 is operated by multi-turn dual helical accelerators, controlled directly from the trigger and is capable of firing at 1000 rounds per minute.

The EM41 comes with a built-in underbarrel UEM2 Grenade Launcher, comprising a barrel, breech, and ten-round internal magazine chamber, fired using a button near the end of the rifle's barrel. Weyland-Yutani also introduced compact concussion grenades which allowed for double the grenade capacity. Grenades will not detonate if they are too close to authorized friendlies.

While the EM41 possesses a tactical rail for the attachment of sights, it does not possess any basic iron sights, making long-distance firing a challenge without first attaching your own sights. The EM41 has a maximum range of 2,100 meters, with an effective range of 500 meters.

While the EM41 does not possess iron sights, as part of its integrated safety measures, it does possess an integrated smart laser sight that can be toggled on or off via a button above the trigger. The laser sight, usually green, will automatically hue-shift to red when aimed at an authorized friendly and lock the weapon's firing systems, preventing discharge. The smart laser sight has a non-reflective range of 750 yards and a reflective range of over 1200 yards. It has an operating temperature of -15° Fahrenheit up to 122° Fahrenheit. It operates on a visible wavelength of 515 to 535 nanometers.

Ammunition[]

The EM41 fires lightweight caseless hypervelocity rounds that are fed by a detachable chamber in the stock. Unlike most rifles of the M41 series, the EM41's hypervelocity projectiles were capable of penetrating the armor of and even killing a Xenomorph Queen. The ammunition's small and light build means that the ammunition capacity of the EM41 is increased tenfold.

Behind the scenes[]

In reality, the EM41s were designed as an interactive prop, part of the controller rig for the virtual reality experience, Alien: Descent.
