ECO All-World Systems Survival Suit

The ECO All–World Systems Survival Suit was a model of space suit designed specifically for extravehicular activity.

Overview

Featuring a metallic crimson colour scheme, the ECO was equipped with rotary joints and self–actuating fingers; despite its logy design limiting its user, the ECO offered total protection from hazards during extravehicular activity. The suit also came with thrusters allowing for tetherless work. However, its helmet was unshielded, making it susceptible to random transmissions. The ECO was supplanted by the ECO2 All-World Systems Survival Suit.

Behind the scenes

The ECO Suits were props designed to be seen rather than worn. According to set decorator Sonja Klaus, director Ridley Scott was so enamoured of them he decided to put one in his London office and one in his LA office.
